“Relaxed and pleasant out-of-town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2009

Even if one has to go into Luxembourg-city occasionally, it is a better choice to stay out of town, either in Mondorf-les-Bains or Ehnen. Mondorf being a traditional Spa and Hotel Grand-Chef a bit old, but comfortable with pleasant staff. Located in a quiet area near parks, good cuisine, safe parking. Older rooms renovated and spacious, nice view. Only thing which really bugged me was their awful muzak, i.e. Occhi chornia with dinner. All the worse as the hotel is member of "Relais du Silence" group.

Hotel Bamberg in Ehnen has fabulous views on Moselle river and vinyards. Some traffic noise, trains and boats, but not too bad. A small, very personal familyhotel, run by the friendly owner-couple. Mr Bamberg is an excellent cook, all produce totally fresh. Spacious doubleroom with huge bath for a reasonable rate. Filled with antiques, immaculately clean. Breakfast is served by Mr Bamberg, attention given to personal wishes.
I only wish they would modernize their bedding from sheets with blankets to the modern type of quiltcover. Synthetic quilts would even be better than down, especially for those with allergies, as well as synthetic pillows.
A great plus for me is the absence of wifi, internet and mobile phones. It adds to the tranquillity of the Bamberg.

“Great evening meal lifted a trad 3 star experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2008

Was looking for a nightstop in Luxembourg en route to Germany and remembered this place from about 7 years ago. Was then very old fashioned but in a peaceful spot and we were wowed by the art nouveau houses in Mondorf les Bains.

This time the hotel still reflects the traditional French style rooms which have been updated but not to the usual upmarket style my eurojaded eyes are used to. Still it was all clean and perfectly acceptable. The highlight however was the evening meal as I had asked for demi pension after a long day on the road. All dishes were homemade and we started with courgette soup followed by ripe melon with plenty of the proper thick cut parma ham. My mains was a triumph- a small piece of white fish and a tiny ramekin of rice served with a vegetable timbale to die for. Tiny fresh carrots with green tops and what I think were white radish and very thinly sliced runner beans all done in a light buttery/wine sauce with red and green pepper corns. Dessert was iced lemon souffles with raspberry compote and a small serving of pineapple sorbet.
With VAT only 3% in Luxembourg we felt compelled to choose something from their excellent wine list and it was very good.
The hotel belongs to Relais au SIlence group but someone needs to tell the local rooks about this as they got a bit noisy late evening. Overall a great start to this year's holiday and if I have food as good as this every night I will be happy.
We paid €165 for room, dinner and breakfast. The breakfast was nothing special but the meal makes it a worthwhile return visit for me.

  • Liked — the evening meal

“A real gem”

Mondorf-les-Bains is a spa town, twenty minutes by regular bus from Luxembourg City. We stayed during August 2006. The hotel is a real gem, situated metres from the thermal domaine. The owners are the Bosseler family who with their staff are attentive and welcoming. The hotel web site provided deals that are good value. The room was adequate and quiet.
Above all the evening meal was remarkable. We met the chef, Monsieur Pierre Webert, and were impressed by his talent. Taste and presentation were excellent.
