“Great venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We used the Weston Manor hotel to host a couple of dinners on consecutive evenings in early January - one for around 25 people and the other for around 80 as had organised an event nearby that attracted some of the cream of the motorsport industry from around the world. As the dining room was too small to accommodate this larger number, we used the marquee that had been set up in the grounds of the hotel. While this was a risk bearing in mind the time of year and the possible weather conditions, it was one we thought worth taking and in the event, everything was fine and the way that the marquee was decorated was superb.

I have to comment on the really superb meals that were served to our guests on both nights as they were of the highest quality. We had already had a food tasting session at the hotel in November and had selected the menu, but when serving to a large number, it can go wrong, but not in this instance. What also helped was the very attentive staff who played their part in making both evenings a great success.

We chose the hotel as the recommended venue for our speakers and delegates as it is so different from the characterless ones that are so often selected for corporate events and we were warmly congratulated on our choice. It might not have had all the facilities of a modern 5 star hotel while having creaky floorboards and a slightly bizarre room numbering system, but it really did the job. Its quirkiness actually added to its appeal, especially for our overseas guests. Furthermore, the breakfast each morning was also a great way to start the day.

Would we go back there again? Certainly - the venue, the food, the staff were all superb.

“Wonderful relaxed stay, lots of atmosphere”

What a pleasant surprise. The Weston Manor Hotel lies just outside Oxford. The extensive grounds and the hotel are wonderful. My wife and I stayed for three nights in November 2011 and got to know the hotel and its staff well. We attended a christening of our granddaughter and the hotel hosted the reception and a Sunday buffet lunch for more than 40 guests. The dining room with its minstrel gallery was an excellent luncheon venue. The staff members were attentive, the breakfasts were just right and we had a front-facing double room which we are certain to again use on our next visit. Highly recommended.

“It's the little things that niggle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

I have delayed writing this review as I really wanted to love the hotel and give it an "Excellent", but there were too many little niggles that let it down. This is my third visit but my first overnight, which I think made a difference. We stayed overnight for a Christmas party and overall had a great time.

I love the antiquity, the setting, the gardens, the quirkyness of the rooms, the Baronial Hall has such a sense of occasion, the whole hotel (main block) has a real feeling of history it's fantastic. However, the bar had virtually no comfy sofa's, just pub tables and chairs. The lounge which is in fact the entrance hall is the same. There is no feeling of the hotel wanting you to stay and lounge around.

I know food at Christmas parties is never great, but the turkey was particularly dry, however a much bigger disappointment was the breakfast. Although they "Cooked to order" the bacon had very obviously been sitting on a hot plate for quite some time. I appreciate that our Christmas do and breakfast were both in the Baronial Hall, however the hotel knew what time the party would finish (midnight on the dot), therefore to find debris of our party still there at breakfast was disappointing. More importantly, those of us staying were extremely disappointed to find the bar locked and bolted at 12.01, therefore no night cap was available (maybe a good thing). On mentioning this at check out, we were told if we had asked they would have brought us a drink to the lounge, but strangely there was no one to ask at 12.01.

As I said, on the whole I LOVE the hotel, but sort out the little things and the Very Good becomes Excellent, especially at the price being paid.

Room Tip: Room 8 appears to be one of the smaller rooms, with the bathroom bigger than the bedroom

“Would definately stay again..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We rang this hotel on our way to Bicester hoping that they had a room (which they did luckily).
When we found the hotel the drive in was lovely it was late evening and the \manor house was all lite up it looked gorgeous. The receptionist was lovely and helpful. Our room was very pleasant and clean. We did end up going down to breakfast at the last moment but the staff again did wonder where we were but was very happy to help and told us not to rush just enjoy our breakfast while they had to have a coffee themselves.
We would stay again even if we wasn't going to the shopping village as we found ourselves having such a relaxing time and just for the staff making you feel so welcome. Would like to try a suite next time.
Mr & Mrs Davies, Essex.
