When I checked into this hotel I was quoted $122.00 per night, for four nights, the receptionist said that it included breakfast, and a sr. discount. I was not impressed with the lobby. The room was less than average as far as hotel rooms and amenities. I noted a placard in the bathroom with a pricelist for the hotel amenities including the iron, ironing board, towels and the coffee pot. I thought it was weird that someone might take such low quality items. One of the phones in the room did not work, but since the other one did I decided not to mention it. There was a mess of tissue under the sink. The bar and grill could not serve any food because they were out of everything, and there was only one employee, and she had to get an early start on closing.
The first night I did not sleep because the room was hot and we had to turn on the air-conditioning to cool it off … and it was loud… on and off all night long. I finally turned it off. I expected for the rate we paid and the undesirable room we were assigned to that it would have been bustling. But it was not busy at all. In fact there were more employees than guests. (It was just after the renaissance festival ended). Our view was of the parking lot/Wallgreens. There were a lot of empty rooms with a view of the pool.
The breakfast was a disappointment. I ended up eating a waffle and some fruit (the selection of fruit was sparse: oranges, pineapple and cantaloupe), and the waffle batter was too thick to poor. When another patron asked an employee to fix the batter he did but only after yet another patron explained the best way to fix it was to add water and mix and the employee was not happy about having to do it.
The pool area was nice and clean and the pool was well kept and a good temperature.
The third night an alarm was going off all night long. It would stop for a few seconds only to start again at the same time there was a grinding noise and a bonking sound. I tried to sleep in because of the lack of sleep during the night but at about 8: am a worker began their job and it included an electric drill or saw or something … and that was that. We went out to breakfast.
I requested extra wash cloths and was given them begrudgingly. We had a young guest in the room for a couple of hours one day and needed a new bedspread and blanket; they were nice about providing it. (I removed them from the bed and took them to the desk they delivered fresh ones to the room and my mom/travel partner made the bed). When we went to the desk to ask a question I could hear the employee in the room just to the side so I said, “HELLO, umm EXCUSE ME” but did not get a reply so I rang the little bell and she came out and yelled at me saying it hurt her ears. I told her that if it was painful to her she should remove it so no one would use it. She told me I was being rude and that she had an ear infection and that is why it bothered her.
The fourth night that alarm went off again. I called and requested a late checkout and I was told that the best they could do with no extra charge was noon. I accepted, then she said or 12:30 whichever is better… I said 12:30 is better. My travel partner was missing a black pair of pants from her bag. I was checking the drawers to see if maybe she had put them there, and found a black bikini swim suit, hat and light cover, that had not been there before, in the drawer.
When we checked out I let the reception clerk know that I felt the hotel was overpriced that it was a $75.00 per night hotel at best. I explained the trouble we had experienced. She said there was nothing she could do about it. I requested to speak to the manager and she told me she was in a meeting and took my number so the manager could call me when she was finished.
I never received a call from the manager. I called her today (four days later) and told her this story. She said she was sorry but that since we had signed she will not do anything.
