This hotel is beautiful and happens to be where I got married. It is old stone fireplaces, huge paintings, fox heads on walls etc A proper old manor house. For the anniversary package you get to stay in one of the suites with the four poster beds. We have been twice and the rooms are stunning. Very traditional, not at all modern, well except the bathrooms I suppose, which looked newer.
The four posters are very romantic, not so comfortable....a bit hard for a person used to memory foam.
In the room is your TV, kettle etc....but also a beautiful platter of fruit, both seasonal and exotic, strawberries, apples, oranges, physalis, grapes, cranberries etc. You also get a bottle of champagne served in ice.
A three course meal is included from the table de hote menu. The food is lovely and the presentation is very Masterchef, but obviously portions are not huge. The meal possibly won't fill you up, but you should enjoy it if you are partial to fussy food - which I am.
I usually take a box of Ferraro Roche to enjoy afterwards ;)
You also have use of the fitness centre and can use the swimming pool and is it a sauna? I also tend to book us sports massage as a treat for about £60 pp.
Breakfast is a help yourself affair - toast, jams, cereals, fruits, pastries and of course you can order the full English if you are still hungry from your posh nosh the night before!!
This package is usually around £200 and I think it is fairly good value for money. You do feel spoilt, especially when it's your beloved who is paying.
It's lovely to be in the romantic setting and dress up for a fancy dinner....and did I mention I love the restaurant? The tables are not too close and the waiters seat you away from others where possible. Theres a cosy fire and the decoration is stunning.
All in all, I think it's fabulous and I have been every year since we got married there. We stroll around the grounds and are always allowed back into the room where we had our first dance on our own (so we can relive the soppy moment).
I would definitely recommend...unless you are very greedy (go to TGI's instead) or ultra modern. If you love isolation, romance, tradition, fruit (lol), and relaxing try it out. We have never been disappointed.
Room Tip: Ask for a suite that looks over the patio and garden rather than the front of the manor where the ca...
