I was accommodated at the last minute as my plans changed. A taxi collected me from Ponda and drove me to the camp which is a bumpy journey into the forest. The staff at the camp were very welcoming and I was given tea and biscuits on arrival. I stayed in one of the rooms off the main house. It was clean, bright and had everything I needed. There was an unseasonal storm the night I stayed with thunder & lightening and torrential rain which led to power cuts and little sleep but it all added to the 'back to nature' experience. The food included in my stay was very good - the choice & variety were brilliant and the staff went to so much trouble considering I was the only person in residence for that night.
I went out birdwatching the afternoon I arrived in the grounds of the camp and the local forest and again the following morning with a different guide in a car further afield. I'm not a serious birdwatcher but both guides were really knowledgeable and great at spotting things that I would not have seen otherwise. I just wanted an idea of what to look for so I could recognise some of the birds I would see in my travels around India and the night I spent at Backwoods was perfect for that. The guide on the 2nd day also took me to a local temple and dropped me back at the bus stop for my onward journey. I loved staying in the beautiful forest and seeing a different side of Goa before heading to the beach - well worth doing.
