I have been living and traveling in Sweden for a year now, so I have a realistic idea of the low expectations one needs to have about Swedish hotels. Even so, I was disappointed with the Villa Borgen. Our double room was relatively small and downright shabby--one of the blinds was broken, the drinking glass holder in the bathroom was so worn that some of the bare wood showed through (and you could still see the glue from sticker that must have been on it when it was new), there was dust on the top of the towel rack and some of the pictures, and there was a patch of
sticky goo on the window sill. Our single room was tiny, and the bathroom was so small that you actually had to pull out the sink to reveal the little shower behind it. The cleaning staff forgot to provide soap in the single. Reading lights were poor. The breakfast was ok, but not up to the standards of other hotels for which I've spent as much, e.g., no herring or salmon. I guess you are paying for the location and for the charm of Visby, which are substantial.
