I have stayed at this motel on many occasions and most recently, yesterday, for one night only - Room 215. The maximum number of nights I have stayed in the hotel was 3 nights on one occasion.
The rooms are always exceptionally clean and the bedding arrangements that I have always received have been two queen sized beds.
There is a mini-bar and all the usually facilities including an iron and ironing board. There is always a good supply of toiletries and it has an excellent flat screen tv.
On this stay I stayed in Room 215 that faces into the quadrangle in the centre of the development. No road noise although there is some minor noise that seems to come from commercial exhaust fans below the window which service the restaurant / bistro.
Now I have been staying at this motel for years - and the reason that I write this review is simply to say that about 3-4 months ago, the caterers in the bistro / restaurant were changed by the hotel management. They are actually located outside of the motel but are accessed through a door abuting the hotel near the lifts and it is the only eatery available to guests. So I am not sure whether it is a department of the motel or belongs to the 'Tradies' Club which is essentially co-joined to this hotel. Any pre-paid vouchers provided by the hotel, direct you to this restaurant / bistro.
But the point is - the new contractors in the restaurant / bistro are not a patch on the old operators. Breakfast used to be absolutely delightful under the old arrangements, but I could not eat the food that was dished up to me by the new operators and told reception of my concern that the food was not up to scratch. I left my omelette on the table - even the smell was terrible! There were a lot of Indian (in appearance) people operating the restaurant / bistro and although they were very pleasantly mannered the food was just downright horrible.
I solved the problem on this occasion by going to eat breakfast in one of the good little restaurants in the shopping centre up the road which is only a 300 metre walk away. Had a great breakfast for about $15 including a lovely coffee in the Lovett Tower.
My evening meal was well and truly a delightful experience at the Noodle Restaurant directly across the road from the hotel. A truly lovely place.
If you like to dabble with poker machines the 'Tradies' Club has a modern and well organised gaming room area. The staff in the Tradies are great also - don't forget they often have a little gaming going on a the bar area also.... you throw two dice... if you beat the bartender.. and I did on three occasions ... your drinks are free. This is an innovative activity and as there were 4 people in my shout, I ended up getting 12 free drinks before going to dinner! (across the road).
To finalise my comment, let me say again, the only thing that lets this hotel down now, is the eating facility - it is simply lousy compared with what used to be available.
The hotel itself is great...
If you don't know Canberra and want to access the City of Canberra, then this hotel is probably not for you, because it is a long way from the airport ($38 by taxi) and is also a long way from Canberra City. If you are visiting the Woden Valley area, then it is great.
So stay here but don't eat here - and take advantage of the many restaurants close by. Oh, there is also a MacDonalds Restaurant in the shopping centre if you like Mackers.
I hope this little review helps you.
Room Tip: If they attempt to put you into Room 102 (which I could not avoid on two previous visits) - vigorous...
