We stayed here one night after a cruise on the Royal Clipper. We booked an ovean view studio which was very nice with a great view. The rooms seem to have been recently renovated but as you go back and forth to the beach, you can see some rooms in the middle building on the south side that have basically been abandoned. They are just shells with graffiti painted on the walls and trash every where. Our bed seemed like it was going to fall over when we got on or off of it. The bathroom seemed new but there was a leak in the ceiling dripping on the floor and our toilet ran constantly. This was supposedly the best room they have sans the 6 beach front suites below us.
The pool area is nice but it was just over run with kids screaming and yelling and being kids. Some are infants whose parents change the kids diaper in their lounger for all to see and smell. I have 4 kids of my own but I try and calm down on vacations and a 5 year old kid screaming 2' from me at her brother for pushing her in the pool for the 17th time is not for me. Thats why I don't go on a Disney cruise.
My other compaint is "da action". Da Action is the beach in front of the hotel where hundreds of kite boarders and wind surfers, some of whom and staying at the hotel but many are not, occupy the beach to a point that it is difficult to walk along the water. I don't have a problem with these poeple as I was a surfer myself for decades but I do have a problem with them when they come onto the property and use the facilty like they are staying there.
I didn't realize this was happening until I went to the bar to get a coke. I was behind a lady who had to get 3 seperate bills for a very large order. When the lady asked for her room number, she politely said she was not staying at the hotel and would pay in cash. She the promptly went to her party to collect the money. They had 3 of the 5 beach front sunning mattresses occupied with about 15 children, kids and adults and they weren't even staying at the hotel! That is just BS as me and my wife could barely find 2 chairs next to each other anywhere on the property.
There is a small sign coming off the beach that says "hotel grounds for guests only" but it is clearly not enforced. The "security" booth is 40' south of the access point and the guy that sits in there is just listening to music and watching the girls on the beach. In my estimation, over half if not 75-80% of the people using the pool, bar, restaurant, lounge chairs and sunning mattresses were not staying at the hotel. It is clear they are making good money from the extra people but it is at the expense of the paying guests. At the end of the day and from my balcony, I watched these very people that were hanging out all day in the resort, gathering up there belongings and walking off the property, back onto the beach and up the alley way south of the hotel to their cars.
The bad music never stops and makes reading a book tough but the screaming kids make it virtually impossible. If you are going to Barbados to relax, re-charge your batteries, take a nice quiet walk along the beach, maybe take a swim and then watch the sunset with your better half, then this is NOT the place for you. Try Peach and Quite up the coast a couple of blocks.
If you want to hear blaring music, have children running races around your lounge chair, get hit is the face with a beach ball in the pool, have trouble finding two chairs next to each other as all the locations are taken by non-paying guests, trip over the miles of kite board string laying on the beach, get yelled at by an out of control kite boarder trying to get to shore while you swim in the ocean and then sharing the sunset with a hundred or so other people who are letting the air out of their kites, then you are in heaven-ENJOY!
Room Tip: Stay in the beach front building if you want a view of the ocean. The middle building faces north so...
