We were triggered by the hotel's offer for a 'romantic getaway in a luxury hotel'.
At arrival, we immediately started hoping that the hotel's outside didn't reflect the state of the rooms. Very uninspiring seventies property.
Unfortunately the room was worse. A smelly, very tiny and outdated room. The tv's remote felt a bit greasy. Why did they present themselves as romantic and luxurious? So we set out to explore the pool area. As pools aren't all that self evident in The Netherlands, we were hoping that part of the hotel would make the stay still worthwile.
The strong smell of chlorine directed us to the pool area. The pool itself reminded me of my swimming lessons back in the seventies. A very unpleasant, unwelcoming environment. There was a an old man changing from swimming trunks back into his underpants at the side of the pool.
What a sad, sad hotel. We decided to checkout, have a stroll through (the lovely town of) Zutphen and drive home the same evening.
We enjoyed our own bedroom twice as much as usual!
