Stayed in City apartment (room 105) of the Eden hotel in autumn 2009. The city apartments are located in a house behind the hotel and have their own entrance. In that regard it provides more privacy, but there may also be more risk for burglary. However, there is a safe in the room.
Like the hotel rooms, the apartment is in need of a refurbishment. The carpet looks worn out and stained.
The furniture may look all right in the hotel rooms, but seems misplaced in the apartment.
The double bed consists of two small looking single beds, with two single duvets. Very uncomfortable.
According to the hotel they do have queen size beds (one mattress 1.40 m) in the “dorpskamers”, rooms with shower only.
In the apartment the small kitchen looks extremely cheap, and lacks cutlery and plates (there was one plate, and 2 cups).
The kitchen does have a sink, two hot plates and a fridge and there are two water kettles in the apartement. However, there was no coffee, only tea. No regular tea, only flavours such as tropical fruit and cactus(?).
Supposedly the hotel provides free wifi in het hotel rooms, but there is no access from the apartments. There are computers with free internet access in the lobby (but can somebody please take the stains out of that comfortable but stained couch?)
All in all, the room did not look very nice, and certainly did not provide a nice surrounding for a longer stay, while it is probably meant to be for a longer stay. Certainly not worth more than 80 euro’s a night, and even paying that I would probably be disappointed.
I was planning on staying two nights, but did not extend my stay after one night.
A few positives: The hotel is located very conveniently in the centre of the beautiful town of Zutphen and it is a 2 minute stroll to the old city walls.
Personnel is quite friendly, and the food is fine.
I have stayed in rooms in the hotel as well. The standard rooms are quite basic in design. Single beds are the standard (double = 2 singles), the bathrooms can be quite tiny, some with bath, some only shower and there were no coffee and tea facilities in the rooms. Although the hotel looks quite posh from the outside, the rooms do not live up to that image, although there are a few large rooms with very special classic decor.
I believe the hotel rooms do not offer value for money, but the big advantage of the hotel is it location in the beautiful center of Zutphen, 10 minute walk from the train station, and a 2 minute walk to the IJssel river.
So if your looking for a convenient location I would recommend this hotel. Are you looking for a comfortable hotel with good facilities, go to the Zutphen resort.
