I may have created my own trouble here. I arrived very early, and the reserved room was not cleaned yet. At the suggestion of the staff, I opted to accept a very small room, and also declined to move to a larger room after the first night. After seeing the other rooms in the hotel, I recognize that this was a big mistake. Even the phone and the television in the room were below standard for this hotel.
Aside from cramped quarters, the stay was very good. This hotel is convenient to everything in Rapperswil. There are a lot of good dining options nearby, and the Asian restaurant in the hotel is one of these. Not too terribly expensive for a good restaurant in Switzerland, and the food was well prepared.
As with most European hotels of this size, there was no fitness center. The hotel does have an agreement with a facility within walking distance, however. The lake front and the hills going up to the castle offer some stimulating exercise, anyway.
The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. They were very good about wake-up calls and accommodating the fact that I was leaving before the front desk opened on my final day.
All in all, my next trip, I will stay here again and try for a little better accommodations.
