“Oh la la, the Geneva experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I stayed at the ETAP for a week, and the room I had reminded me of a student dorm, simple, practical, extremely clean, It was a place to rest and to prepare for meetings next day. It was a good experience, particularly because the rooms were well sound proof, you did not hear anything from the other rooms or even from the hall. The restaurant was good, nice prices and very polite staff. The receptionist at the hotel...what can I say...? Showing the Geneva politeness to foreigners...which is not great, but indeed very similar to other hotels in Geneva. But they do they job, but someone should do something on the communication skills of hotel staff in Geneva... Saying that, overall, a good experience, clean, cheap, professional staff, good restaurant in place. And a plus, free wireless!. Crossing the street, there is a major mall (the Balexert), where you will find everything, but only until eight oclock PM, when it closes! There are some restaurants next to the cinema at the mall, (between the mall and the gas station, just fifty meters from the corner) and there you could have a bite if you are late. Enjoy your stay!

“Futuristic but not in a good way”

This is the kind of hotel that makes you wonder why they put up with the inconvenience of having guests: life would obviously much easier without us. As normal for the Accor chain, the rooms resemble something from a sci-fi novel and you half expect to be placed in cryogenic suspension for the duration of your stay. Having said that, they are certainly kept neat and clean, and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, the designers have computed the most logical temperature for life support, so see no need to provide a way for the cargo (sorry, guest) to change it. Nor can you open the window for some fresh air because it's strictly forbidden and seemed impossible anyway. I found it so stuffy and uncomfortable I had two very bad nights' sleep. The jaunty Swiss-themed bistro restaurant at least looked more promising, but the waitress apparently had better things to do than deal with earthlings. When we tried to order she announced that she was too busy, and disappeared. The reception 'borgs hadn't received their empathy software upgrade, so my request for my room key card to be reprogrammed when it failed on day two was handled with without even a hint of an apology. Okay, it's cheap (by Geneva standards), but certainly not cheerful and I won't be coming back.
