Hotel actually consists of 2 different buildnings and if your room is in the Hotel du France building, then the rooms are not more than 3 star, actually, 3-.

Pros:

Free access to the great Alpentherme as well as the smaller hotel baths which also are very good althoug a bit small. Stay in the hot water and relax for as long as and when you wish. Underground access to both thermal baths. Hotel facilities are nice - both lobby and restaurant are good. Breakfast is superb. I got a good deal and paid 130 CHF for a single room. For that fee it is good value but the normal high season prices are ridiculous for what you get. Free drink was included.


Cons:

Rooms was poor, with tiny bed and old furniture (although I actually had nice mountain views from it). Quality of staff varies a lot. The young man in the reception was a total disaster and did everything wrong. Hotel is a good 6-8 min walk from the bus station.

We booked a massage each, Mine was "ok" but not worth the long trip. My wife's was very poor. It was supposed to be a deep tissue massage by a Chinese lady, who refused to do that massage and was yawning and disinterested all the way through. The receptionist wrote down the complaint, did not offer a refund, promised to have the manager respond and we never heard from them again

We returned to the hotel because of its perfect location. Both buildings are connected through an underground tunnel to the Aplentherme spa. Breakfast is another plus: one of the best I ever enjoyed.

On the down side the management is aware of the fact that they are the only hotel connected to the baths and does not really care. The bathroom tiles were very old and broken making them difficult to clean. The shower and the furniture were also not really clean. The courtesy bathrobe was stained and had several holes. We tried to call the pool desk, after a while they picked up just to hang up less then a second layer: I don't mind being put on wait but not like that.

In general we were happy and would return there because of the location but as last year we don't think that the hotel service reflects a four stars.

While we stayed at a different property in Leukerbad (The Hotel Astoria) we chose to pay 75 Euros to use the luxury pools here instead of the noisy, smelly baths in town which were free with our hotel room. What a bummer. When we paid our fees to enter, we were not told that there would be no towels or robes provided, nor did we get any information about how to navigate the maze to get to the pools. Only because we saw some other guests enter did we figure out where to go, then stumbled around to change, and take the mandatory showers. After that one must go upstairs to enter the indoor, then outdoor pools. Wet and cold, with no towels, we were very uncomfortable and felt most out of place. No one ever approached us to help - there was no one in the changing area or at a desk near the stairs to the pools. It was not worth the cost. We looked and felt unwelcome.
