“Uber funky hotel in the centre of town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

Great little hotel which is just by the train station (no noise, good windows) in the cente of Baden.

Check-in was easy and accompanied by a free welcome drink - the reception staff seem to work also as waiters for the reception area bar.

Room is a little stark - wood floor and stripped back decor. Shower (rain shower and a sep. handset) share a "privacy pod", with the sink in the main room. The arrangement works well and my room had plenty of space.

Reception shuts down around 11, the bar at 12. The restaurant food is good, and well priced. A lot better than many hotel offerings. (There are lots of places to eat in the town - just stroll through the rail station and you'll find the main hub)

No mini-bars in the rooms, but an honesty bar on the 2nd floor with beer, soft drinks and pringles.

More than happy with my stay and the helpful staff.

“Best hotel in Baden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2010

I travel to Baden 5-6 weeks every year, and the hotel has always been a risky part.. This is a great hotel it was my first stay there. But I will defenitly change my next reservations to this hotel!!, Very clean and modern. The windows in the rooms are deep, (could sit there and read a book) The employees in the reception is very service minded and warm. Close to the city. Some of my colleagues heard the train a few times during the night, but i didn't notice that. The rooms are Scandinavian in the design. Slim and minimalistic design with focus at comfort and functionality, comfortable beds, but also very nice colors and decoration. It is a little bit weird with all the glasdoors/windows in the bathroom, but the bathroom feels a lot bigger then if it had been solid walls. The shower is wonderful. The design is wonderful! The pictures at the web page are absolutely true!

“Nice modern hotel but needs air con”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2009

We had a large corner room in the new part of the hotel in front of the bus and train station.

Central – right by the bus and train station and a couple of minutes in to town
The rooms were modern (if a little sparse). The staff were friendly (though they did not tell us about the free coffee - until I read a review below after my return).

The bed was too small, and there was no fridge in the room.
The worse thing is the lack of air conditioning in the room, making it very hot and airless – even though the weather was not that hot during our visit. There was a small window that opened but located next to both the stations, it was too noisy to sleep with it open.
There is a nice flat screen TV but for English speaking visitors there is only BBC news or CNN news on the TV.
Average breakfast (though decent fruit selection).
The other strange thing was that there was a glass wall surrounding the shower that looked straight on to the street. Also the door to the toilet was glass and the sink was in the bedroom which meant if you got up in the night, you lit up the whole room.

I would stay here again in the colder months, but not again during the summer months.

“good quality city hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2009

I had a clear day in the middle of a business trip, so rather than stay in Zurich itself I thought I'd visit somewhere less obvious. Baden is a short train ride from Zurich but is a typical little Swiss town (some of it old and quaint, some of it modern and functional), with.... baths!

The hotel is a modern city hotel, in the newer part of the city, 2 minutes' walk from the train station. But it's a small town, and whether you want to go hike forest trails, explore the old town, or stroll to the baths, it's all close by.

The room was well designed, and comfortable in a minimalist way; mine was quite large but looking at the floor plan the sizes do vary. The bathroom is separated from the room by a translucent curtain, so if you're sharing, you'd better be buddies or better! Everything was modern, clean, and functional, with good quality soaps and shampoos in the bathroom. There's no tea-making facilities in the room - tho' there were a couple of bottles of free mineral water.

The breakfast provided was good for the standard of the hotel, plenty of bakery items, yoghurts, etc., with free local papers (and IHT). I arrived just before breakfast finished, and the hot items were dry and inedible by then, not that it bothered me too much.

At check-out time I was turfed out of the room by the maid (with a smile on her face), but there's free internet and coffee in the lobby and I was made very welcome as I caught up on some work for an hour or so. I then walked around the town, and took a dip in the baths, before hopping a train back to Zurich.

“Nice hotel shame about the flies and lack of air conditioning!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2008

This is a very smart hip hotel , very convenient for the railway station with a great restaurant with a nice outdoor terrace, However in the summer it suffers from lots of flies. I believe this is because in the summer it gets so hot , the hotel has no choice but to have doors and windows open becuase it has no air conditioning.
Now this situation would perhaps be tolerated if it were an old hotel , but the blue city has a vey new annex that dosent even have wndows that open , just a small grill at the side of the windows , and these rooms are unbearably hot .
I have stayed a few times and honestly can say that the rooms are lovely with great rainfall showers , but they are really hot in the summer so try to get a room in the old part of the hotel at least then you have the option to open a window, however, the traffic noise might be a problem as there are very busy roads that intersect this hotel.
To get back to the flies ,the food on the breakfast buffet is often feasted on by flies and even the wall lights in the dining room have lots of dead flies in them, which is off putting. The hotel dont seem to do anything about the flies which literally land on you from the moment you enter the dining room, very annoying and this shoudnt be tolerated by a hotel of this price range in my opinion.
The staff are attentive, but vary in standard, some are exceptionally good , others are exceptionally bad.
Thses caveats aside I would definately stay again in winter as the problems I have experienced would not be an issue then.
If you visit in summer however the bonus is that the beer garden of the brewery next door is open when the weather is fine and its a brilliant experince with a great communal atmosphere with reasonably priced food an drink, try the warm pretzels with a glass of the local brew , they are wonderful.

  • Liked — The funky modern decor, the shower and the cozy bar and Lemon restuarant
  • Disliked — Hot stuffy rooms , traffic noise and all the flies!
