In our view the cons outweigh the pros as concerns this hotel as it was very poor value for money.

Pros:
1. Room was clean.
2. Connected to public baths with free access (otherwise 20 to 30 CHF)

Cons:
1. Very bad service.
2. Tried to raise our rate at three different times for no apparent reason. (Staff said: they do not have the rate we booked through direct contact with the hotel?!)
3. Our room over looked a petrol station and major road.
4. Room service did not answer when we called them four or five times at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
5. Room very basic, but did have robe and slippers.
6. Hotel management did not reply to our letter of complaint.

We choose this Hotel because it was listed in travel guide, That mentioned the Hotel has its own passage to the Thermal Spa, this was really very appealing to us. And the fact they feature a own thermal pool is certainly a plus too.
We where kindly welcomed at the reception by a young ( trainee? ) and when we asked the clerk for availability the mess up begun .. he told us a price of 290chf without mentioning that this a person rate, in the price included breakfast and a 6 course dinner. Of course we thought that this a really fantastic offer, very fast he made us clear its a mistake and he is able to offer us 2person room for 350chf breakfast, and no dinner standard room. we did accept the offer. since we did like the hotel from its first impression. The room are modern, basic luxury, quiet and very very clean.
A really BIG plus is the passage to the spa and its own entrance, and as said the own private pool of the hotel. The breakfast buffet offer a lot to choose from in fabulous grand room and as we are used the swiss service is friendly and flawless.

Before choosing this hotel, I read all the varied reviews.
I am very sorry for those who paid 500 CHF/night, and I am of the opinion that there's no hotel in the world worth this money to sleep and have breakfast and/or dinner. One should have a special deal offered by the hotel or then it's really not worth it. We stayed in a room typical for a conference hotel. Yes, these normal guest rooms have a small bed for two people, but the rooms themselves are large enough, newly renovated, very clean and smartly decorated. The hotel is situated in a large park and most rooms have either a park view or view the thermal pools. When there's a lovely thermal pool and park, town center and lake within walking distance, why spend time in the room?
Someone commented on the small selection breakfast buffet. The buffet is small and is not a 4-star hotel status, that's true, but what they do offer is good quality. If one wants eggs, one can order them at no extra charge--freshly prepared.
Having a hotel with a thermal water pool is truly outstanding! My husband and I got into the pool before sunrise; enjoyed the pool's holiday lights and lit-up reindeers, while listening to the birds flying from tree to tree. It was dramatic and romantic. We were the only ones in the pool during three days. We ask ourselves what goes through the minds of the guests? Why pay 15. CHF/person more and enter the public thermal pool with lots of people, teenagers and screaming children? Okay, sadly enough, there's no lounge chair room to read by the pool in winter which means a retreat back to the guest room, but one can sit in the closed cafeteria in their bathrobe to relax a few minutes. Maybe the hotel will decide on building a winter garden.
The staff is very friendly and professional. I'm sure they appreciate well-dressed people, and anyone going to a 4-star hotel should take this effort. We will definitely return!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Grand Hôtel des Bains in Yverdon (Switzerland) for one night this summer. We paid almost 500! Swiss Francs and expected to be treated accordingly. It turned out to be a complete rip-off. Nothing in that hotel can live up to the price we paid. The service was terrible, the view from the small balcony ended at the plastic chairs(!) on the terrace... At 7 am in the morning, the gardener began to moe the lawn down the hotel park making tremendous noise... Can you imagine that?
If it would have cost say 100 Swiss Francs it would have been ok, but for the price we paid this was the worst cost-performace ratio for a hotel I ever experienced.
So do yourself a favor and stay away from the Grand hotel des Bains...
