We spent three nights at Seehotel Gotthard, in a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the lake, and can heartily recommend it.
Weggis is a peaceful, pretty Swiss lakeside town, only half an hour or so from Lucerne with regular ferry or (clockwork) Bus / Train transfers.
Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by Barolo, the hotel's rotund cat, who enjoys sleeping on the reception desk. He, and the rest of the staff, were incredibly friendly and made us feel at home with a free drink upon arrival and were always happy to explain the local area and attractions to us.
We ate at the hotel each evening - the prices are good by the standard of other restaurants in Weggis, but still expensive. We found the half-board option slightly disappointing, as the portions were small; and would recommend trying a course or two from the a la carte menu, this was very tasty, and served on the lakeside terrace gave a wonderful atmosphere. For the budget conscious, the wood fired pizzas are also super.
The hotel has a few sunloungers, but shares a larger outdoor pool, spa and sauna area with a hotel next door, which is a very nice touch.
Seehotel Gotthard is a brilliant option if you want peace, quiet and beautiful Swiss lake views away from the hustle and bustle of Lucerne.
