“Perfect for a Quiet Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

We visited Villars for a wedding and just wanted somewhere quiet and comfortable for a long weekend.

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent. Breakfast in the room was a real treat. Having such a good sized room with a huge balcony was a blessing - because the weather was unseasonably bad. From talking to other guests at the wedding we think we did better than those who stayed in larger hotels with better facilities. Who needs a hotel spa when the excellent local swimming pool is available free of charge? Cannot think of a down side unless you object to walking 300 yards into the village.

“Excellent hotel, good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

We stayed here with friends in January, really impressed. Huge room, very clean and well equipped. Ours on top floor had fantastic views over the whole valley and mountains with great south facing balcony. Kitchen well equipped. Breakfast delivered on the dot to our room every morning. Friendly owners. Would definitely go again. Heated boot stand in shared locker room. Quiet location.

“excellent low key-high quality cosy family owned hotel: recommendable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2009

Feel at home at this well run and well kept small chalet-hotel with extremely sweet staff and hospitable and friendly owner. Cozy, wood-pannelled rooms with plenty of space, a bit old fashioned in the good traditional Swiss way, but very well maintained and very clean and comfortable. Extremely good value with breakfast served in the room- there's a smal dining table- but most rooms have also sunny balconies with chairs and a table so with good weather enjoy the view while having your coffee and croissant! Some rooms have a kitchen as well so you can be as independant as you wish to be for a small extra fee that covers the cleaning..
There's high speed wireless internet from all rooms if you bring your own laptop, it worked very well during our stay. All rooms are well appointed with tv, a fridge, good bathroom and all you need for a pleasant stay.
The location is quiet but still very close to the main shoppping street and the station, the little red train that passes by makes it as Swiss as can be but doesn't disturb one's sleep as it runs 'till early evening only.
With the personal attention and the facilities provided it is an excellent choice for a very comfortable stay in a no-nonsense hotel, perfect if you don't want to bring your high heels or dinner jacket in the pretty posh village that Villars is.
Would recommend it for couples, families ( some rooms can be connected) and everybody else that likes an authentic stay without the frills of a big fancy hotel!

“SOOO Nice.”

I cannot rave enough about this cozy, clean, family-owned/run establishment. Gorgeous views, quiet, HUGE room, super-sweet staff and great price sums it up. Beds were so comfy, kitchen, dining area and living room perfectly sized and stocked. Huge bathtub to relax in. Great, long balcony to dine on. Their restaurant is nonsmoking which is refreshing if you've been through the rest of Europe as a nonsmoker. Internet is iffy on a Mac but you'll spend your entire time outside anyway admiring this amazingly pristine town. It's undiscovered as far as average tourist destinations go and I'd like to see it stay that way! Close to other towns by train and bus, it was a break midway through our hectic and full European tour. I wish I could have stayed at least 4 more days. Before September, there are great activities like bicycle tours and hikes. The food was delicious and the people were SO kind they made Paris look like a bunch of unevolved neanderthals. Did I say it was clean? Environmentalists will shake their heads in disbelief of how far behind the U.S. is in that respect.

  • Liked — Quiet, kind and GORGEOUS.
  • Disliked — Zero complaints.

“Great accommodations for the price.”

Stayed at Ecureuil for a ski trip this winter. The proprietor offers a clean, comfortable room for a good price.

A few things to note: 1) Yes, the B&B has Internet access, but you can't get it from your room. You have to use an older Mac in the lobby, and the connection is slow. Expect to pay by the minute and to use a French-language keyboard and browser. 2) The rooms have double beds, but mine was two singles pushed together, rather than the typical queen. 3) Americans may find the rooms small; I thought they were decent for Europe.

Pros: 1) Ecureuil is within walking distance of the train and bus stops -- although you're walking away from the town center, not toward it. 2) The rooms have private bathrooms with super hot water -- nice after a long day on the slopes. 3) The operator is fantastic and speaks English well. 4) The breakfast that comes with the room fee is delicious. 5) There's a mud room for skis and boots that's locked every night, so your equipment doesn't take up valuable room space.

  • Liked — The service and cleanliness.
  • Disliked — The so-called Internet access.
