“Hidden gem, small & romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011 via mobile

Beautiful chalet located very close to the centre ville but still slightly out to enjoy peace and quiteness. Small nicely furnished rooms with balconies faced to sunny side, pines surrounding the building. Comfy bedding and amazingly fresh air (sure you may say - what to expect in alpes, but still air was so sweet!). Good night sleep is guaranteed;)). Superb breakfast! Rich variety of dishes, anything you may want and even more. Hotel restaurant is really a treasure - super menu, carefully selected wines. Quite expensive (quite expected, eh?) Dinners were delightful!
One minus - lack of hot water - In April was very few people there, so they switched off water boilers. Even concierge promised that hot water will run in 5 min or so it didn't really started. I really missed my hot bath after day on slopes... Practical observations: 7-10' walk to ski-lift, nice skiing area close by (you can get to les diableret from there). Walk back was a disaster as I was tired and you have to slightly climb up to the hotel... For sure it didn't spoil overall superb impression from a very nice break in Swiss alpes..

“could be and should be a lovely place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

When we stayed the restaurant was closed (except for breakfast) and the hotel was extremely quiet. The owners were extremely pleasant and helpful; we didn't encounter any staff as such. The location is very good as it's near town but with minimal traffic noise. Watched a red squirrel in the garden from our balcony. The residents' lounge is very pleasant and comfortable. The downsides: the room was small; there were two chairs which had to be moved if you wanted to open the wardrobe or the door to the balcony. The restaurant could have a view of the mountains but the curtains are draped over the windows so as to block most of the view and the light. The buffet breakfast would have been acceptable in a cheap hotel but was of poor quality and not what you would expect of a four star- not very nice coffee, nasty OJ, reheated croissants that tasted as if they'd been around a day or two. If you wanted tea you were told to choose your teabag and you'd be brought a cup of hot water! We also noticed that the exterior looked in need of tlc and the window boxes were empty, with the exception of one balcony on the annexe. The one on our balcony was full of dry earth and pine needles, and was tied on with string. It's a small detail, but a few geraniums cost next to nothing and would have cheered the place up. Reception is not always open and we were told to keep our key with us when we went out; it's a bit dark and unwelcoming when you come in late in the evening and having the lights on by the door would be nice. My feeling was that this hotel should be and could be a lovely place to stay, but needs a bit of a spruce and to sort out its breakfast.

“A most delightfully memorable hotel and ski holiday”

We stayed for half term at La Renardiere with our two teenaged boys, who were dreading the trip. Instead, it was fantastic. Lovely rooms, fabulous food (the restaurant even catered to a fussy son's taste), a baby-foot game table to keep the boys occupied later at night, and you can ski right down to the hotel at the end of the day!

We will be back - perhaps in the summer, to do some walking, but mostly to relax and enjoy this welcoming, happy place, run by a family and their staff that treated us like family.

“Made a hotel booking and the hotel owners reneged - rude and unprofessional!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

I did a lot of research and was looking forward to staying at this hotel with my 2 children this August. The hotel owners, whom I corresponded with, were completely rude and unprofessional - no customer service orientation at all! We received a confirmation of the reservation from the hotel and responded immediately with a question clarifying their cancellation policy (which is confusing and hard to understand so beware). Having not heard back from them, I sent them another email and they then notified us that the hotel is booked (which according to booking.com is NOT the case). This was all after they tried to sell me a much larger and more expensive room than I needed or wanted. So unprofessional and horrible customer service!

“Pleasant hotel with friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2009

I stayed at the Renardiere in summer, on a half-board package from a UK Tour Operator.

The hotel is in a reasonably quiet location, and set in attractive gardens. Accommodation is in two adjoining chalet-style buildings. Public rooms are well-appointed. The proprietors and staff were friendly and helpful.

The room I stayed in was in the annexe. The room was not large, and the decor was a little dated, but overall the space and furnishings were perfectly adequate. This ground-floor room had a south-facing terrace. Cupboard space was good. Bathroom fittings were similarly dated, but of good quality. Standards of cleanliness were as you would expect in Switzerland.

The buffet breakfast was fine. No hot dishes were offered, but on the plus side, breakfast service continued until 11 am, which would be a boon to late risers. My package included a three-course set dinner. No choice was offered. Cuisine was of the nouvelle variety, with quality ingredients well-cooked and attractively presented, though ultimately not very substantial. Desserts were particularly imaginative. The wine list was extensive, and priced as you would expect. For those wishing to economise with a jug of tap water with the meal, note that you will be charged for it. Service in the restaurant was generally attentive. On two clement evenings the meal was served outside on an attractive terrace. On these occasions service could be a little leisurely.

Overall, quite a pleasant place to stay.
