Rooms are clean and well spaced. The hotel's situation right next to the train station is convenient if you travel by public transport (although you have to put up with it not being quite as quiet as most locations in Scuol due to the train station as such and that being a building site this summer in particular).
The biggest disappointment were the staff - we didn't even get a 'hello' out of them, just a 'what's your name' and instead of 'good bye' we were asked whether we had paid (especially awkward since we were on a package deal which we had paid in advance!). They weren't actively impolite - just seemingly very, very annoyed at having to wait on people, which is strange, since it is their business. In short: go someplace else. Even the ultra modern youth hostel sitting on a traffic island appealed more to us than the Altana...

i have to agree with previous reviews - i stayed there recently and had a similarly disappointing experience. this hotel seems to have no redeeming features! shoddy food made with cheap ingredients so they can make the biggest margins, small and dirty rooms with a horrid outlook (ours looked over construction at the railway station), poor location (10 mins from town but even further from the pretty old town), no bar for a quiet drink before your meal, mean service - we were charged for the hot water that went into our thermos. it had none of the character or goodwill of the lovely swiss people we stayed with in the area. go elsewhere!!

The hotel Altana is situated right next to the station / cable car to the mountain. BUT - big but - it is not worth the money. We booked a relax offer, and we got so irritated, that we weren't very relaxed. The rooms are rather old, the balcony was practically dangerous (the planks weren't fixed properly and creaked a lot), and the whole thing just left the impression of "give us your money, we don't care about the rest".
A few examples why we think that this hotel is just eager to get money from guests:
- We had to pay an extra 5 francs for a litre of tap water for the included dinner (mind you, this is the Engadin, tap water is available everywhere, and in other restaurants you can drink litres of the stuff for free!
- When we got our bath cloths for the Bath of Scuol, we had to let them put an extra charge of 40 francs each on the bill, in case we didn't return the cloth. The comment of the hotel was: You know, we got it embroidered especially for us, and it might happen that you don't return it. I don't like a hotel that treats me as a possible thief.
- The hiking "food package" contained one little sandwich and an apple, that won't get you far.

All in all, i wouldn't go there again. We later discovered that other hotels gave you little baskets to put your bathing robes in etc., that they all had unlimited entry to the bath (not just once for 3 hours) and that they also included dinner for two evenings.

I simply felt ripped-off.
