“Pampered from A to Z”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2010

Me on biz trip, my wife spent a few days on her own at this delightful Hotel in the Bernese Oberland. She was absolutely thrilled about the thoughtful and genuinely friendly service where one feels that the staff is in sink with the management to pursue one objective: To delight their guests. Single women feel especially at ease. The facilities (large indoor as well as outdoor steaming pools in the midst of snowy winter landscape, all the spa treatments you want) as well as the food are excellent. The hotel will be closed at the end of the winter season for refurbishing and extension. Just hope they do not change too much - it is so well kept and cosy as it is - and that the staff and management keep up the top standard. Btw: the price/quality/service ratio - even with a strong Swiss Franc - is hard to beat.

“Junior Suite type "Gstaad", with Top class service !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

My wife and I spent 1 night in the Junior Suite nbr 506, type "Gstaad" in October 2010, which is located on 3rd floord (last floor), with garden view. The room was absolutely unusual with a lot of wood all around us, a little bit small, but giving such a coisy environment. The balcony was full of colorful flowers and was inviting us to relax and to enjoy the view.
On arrival, service was absolutely top class as our luggages were brought to our Junior Suite, the portier offered us to park our car and we could even have an early check in at 1:15 pm (normally rooms are ready at 4:00 pm, but we requested early check in if possible), which gave us the possibility to immediately enjoy the pools. At the reception, we received a small wet hot towel to wash our hands/face and a welcome drink. Staff was very friendly and helpful, really showing a high quality of service. There are 2 swimming pools, one is a salty one with 35 degrees Celsius, half inside half outside, the other one is 28 degrees Celsius and only outside, very good for swimmers.
The choices of saunas is just exceptionnal !!! 6 different saunas, but be informed that in 4 of them, it is mandatory to be fully nude inside, so if you are travelling with your wife or husband, you should be ready !
This hotel is very nice to relax and is peaceful. Reason why there are a lot of clients, most of them being quite old (50-60 or more and many couples), if you want to have fun and to party, this is not the place for you to stay.
About our Junior Suite, I should say that it was getting kind of tired room, as most of the wooden furnitures had marks or were kind of damaged by the time, but it was still ok and acceptable. From March 2011 to December 2011, hotel will be closed due to renovations, which is a good thing.
I requested a no smoking room, last floor, but there were 2 ashtrays inside room and on balcony, it's a kind of mistake as I really hardly support smoke smell, so it was big risk for hotel to provide me with a smoking room ! To my eyes, all rooms should be no smoking, as nobody is coming to such paradise to smell smoke of others... I also think that dogs should not be allowed for hygienical and noise reasons.

So, to resume :

Positive points :
----------------------
1) exceptional staff attitude and excellent services provided
2) 6 saunas area and jacuzzi
3) salty swimming pool
4) food in restaurant was just excellent and service also
5) location is quite, peaceful and flowers all around
6) balcony with garden view, just perfect

Negative points :
-----------------------
1) rooms are quite small
2) needs revovation (but it is already planned by hotel Management !)
3) smoking is permitted in some rooms
4) dogs are accepted
5) prices of rooms are expensive

Finally, I liked also very much that you received a personalised table, with your name, when going to dinner. It gives a little touch of more privat and personalised service.

We will definitively come back to this wonderful hotel, to relax and to have so good times...

“Top Notch hotel - you will not be dissappointed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2010

This hotel is really nice. it can combine the pleasures of great food with the pleasure of a SPA. The staff of the hotel was fantastic and the food was wonderful. Just as an anecdote my wife is celiac and once she told them that she was intolerant to gluten, the chef of the hotel prepared a special menu for her and baked special bread everyday, The hotel is also, opposite to a lift to go skiing. I highly recommend this hotel.

“Great staff but not quite 5 star...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2010

We’ve just stayed at this hotel for skiing holiday for 8 nights.

LANGUAGE
French / German ONLY. Staff can speak good English but all information regarding events and menu are in French and German so if you don’t understand either language you always have to ask someone to find out the most basic things.

FOODS
Foods at the hotel were amazing. Restaurant staff were very professional. I didn’t like couple of dishes but if the menu were in English, I could have avoid those problems very easily. We took the half-board option. For dinner (5 course menu) you could choose from standard menu, wellness menu and vegetarian menu. The menu changes every day. They have good selection of wines as well which you have to pay for as is the case with all drinks at dinner.

ROOMS
We stayed in a junior suite (room 702, 1st floor!) which was a good size for an alpine residence. Bathroom was excellent although the rest of the room looked a little tired. TV was dreadful and small which put us off watching any of the in house movies which were reasonably priced. The room had a balcony which overlooked the mountain which was tremendous however there seemed to be a permanent cloud from the salt swimming pool below which kind of killed it. The room had Internet access but no wifi and when I pointed out that my laptop didn’t have a wired network port I was promised a solution or at least the access code to the lobby wifi network; I got neither which was inexcusable. A mini bar was present in the room which was reasonably priced, 6 CHF for a beer although it was very limited and never re-stocked such that we had to call up every time a particular beverage ran out, not very 5 star.

GYM
As part of this R&R break I’d hoped to catch up on the many missed gym sessions from recent weeks. However on arrival were told that we had to pay 45CHF ($40) for an assessment before we would be allowed to use the gym, again not mentioned prior to arrival and a major disappointment.

DRESS CODE FOR DINNER
Gentleman; tie, jacket and smart shoes. Ladies; cocktail dress, high heels, expensive jewellery and full make up on were the impression that I got from the hotel guests average appearance. Yes, you’ll see ladies like dressing full-length real fur coat with fully beaded dress inside. I wish the hotel could mention about dress code for dinner with tie and jacket situation when we were booking or at least could make note on the website so that we could simply pack them in our suitcase or probably we didn’t book the room in this hotel. You pay a lot of money to stay in hotel and I would prefer to wear whatever I like to relax whilst on holiday. When we arrived at the hotel they gave us a booklet describing everything about hotel’s facility in English and found out that gentleman are requested to wear jacket and tie. My boyfriend brought couple of smart shirts but we both didn’t have smart shoes. Reception said there is no problem so we were ok to go in to the restaurant but other guests will look at you from top to bottom.

SPA FACILITIES
Salt swimming pool with Jacuzzi was amazing. Unfortunately the sauna was unisex and totally nude so I could only try once. Some females were wrapped their body with towels (like I did) but males are generally totally naked so if you are not used to this level of detail you might miss out on the sauna like I did which was real a shame.

GUESTS AT THE HOTEL
60 years old above. When we arrived, 90% of the guest there were 60s above. (My impression only I didn’t ask ages of all the guests.) When we were leaving, the school holiday season had just begun so there were many families with children who can be a tad noisy, jumping in the spa pools and behaving like children do and so if you’d like to relax in “silent” salt water heated pool jacuzzi, I’d recommend avoiding the school holiday period.

OVER ALL
If you have mentality of “be like Swiss when you are in Switzerland” and speak language, you’ll enjoy staying at this hotel. The hotel is 5 star in Switzerland but not in international standard. We are in mid 30s so we might go back 30 years later. We should have enough time to study French or German.
