We stayed 1 week at the Hotel Allalin in middle January and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Saas-Fee is a terrific town which is quaint, quiet with good skiing, sledding, hiking, etc. in the mountains around the town.
We booked a Superior Double and on check-in requested a room change (another Superior Double with a different view) which the owner (who personally checked us in) accommodated very easily. The room was exactly what was pictured and was properly cleaned when we came in. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet each morning which was good and they offered scrambled eggs/omelets on request and were always on hand for more coffee/tea/etc. Each day we were able to begin breakfast up until 10am (the cut-off) and the staff were even nice enough to offer to get us food when we slept in past 10am one day.
The room was always cleaned during the day and when we requested additional towels the front desk happily gave them to us. We did run out of soap/shampoo/tissues a few days in and the cleaning service did not replace it so we had to call (which was just a slight inconvenience) but within minutes they were all brought up to us.
We, unfortunately, only ate dinner at their restaurant one evening...unfortunate because it was exceptionally good - the best we had in Saas-Fee. We have lived in Geneva for approx. 8 months and are used to (what we consider) questionable meat quality across Switzerland. But, what we had in their restaurant was fantastic - and definitely one of the best meals we’ve had in Switzerland since we've been living here. We highly recommend eating there your first night to get a taste and see if the half-board option is best for you.
The hotel offered to pick us up at the bus station, take us back to the bus station when we left, and also helped drive our ski gear to their ski room near the Alpin Express on our first and last days - extremely helpful.
Towards the end of our trip my wife became very ill and the hotel staff was amazingly kind and caring to her. In fact, I think it seemed like all of the staff was told she was sick and when they saw her/us asked her if she was OK and if there was anything they could do for her. This helped create a very friendly (bordering family) feel to our stay. In fact, on several occasions we had the opportunity to talk to the owner while eating or having a drink at the bar and that personable touch was truly appreciated.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. If we had to offer some suggestions it would be only two things:
1) The wellness center seemed a bit dated (although in our opinion it was not, as another reviewer wrote, unclean). Things just looked a little old. The sauna did not work one day but was fixed the next and the same for the jacuzzi/whirlpool. The wellness center is a bit small but as the hotel is also small it may be well sized.
2) The elevator can be a bit loud and it looks quite old (but worked without issue our entire stay). We could hear it move between floors each time it ran but luckily people were not using it much past 11pm or before 7am.
Again, overall, we had a wonderful stay and were very thankful we stayed at the Allalin. The staff was tremendously nice (we had lots of questions and can be particular about certain things which they were very accommodating towards) and the experience was great. We highly recommend Hotel Allalin and would happily stay there again.
