“Once agin, a great stay at Allalin!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

This family-run hotel in the wonderful site of the Alps is a perfect compliment for what ever takes you to Saas Fee. The owners are always there making sure all your needs are satisfied, and the rest of the staff is specially nice and helpful. The rooms,(most with balconies) and the bathrooms are immaculately clean and spacious, and beds are very comfortable. There is an ample social area, and the restaurant has a gourmet standard even when food is for groups. I have been there twice and will stay there again and again!

“A for Allalin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2011

We loved our 2-bedroom apartment at Hotel Allalin: although my first impression was, 'it is older and not as contemporary looking than the photos on the website suggest', this family room was perfect for our needs and helped make our stay unforgettable. Our room had a beautiful view on the mountains and we really enjoyed lounging on the long chairs and sitting at the table on the balcony, as well as spending time in the spacious living room.

The apartment is not fancy but it is clean, comfortable and well conceived, with lots of storage space, large windows, a safety deposit box and free, unlimited internet (a must as we have two college age boys and I had to study). As our boys live out of the house, we tried to find a place where we could all stay together and spend quality time together. It was nice to stay in an apartment with all of the advantages of a hotel so this was just perfect!

We had a delicious and abundant breakfast every morning in the lovely restaurant. There is a sauna and a whirlpool at the ground level (unfortunately with no views), next to the restaurant; we used it everyday and never had to share: a real treat! The property looks like one of the most attractive ones in beautiful Saas Fee. The owner is actively involved and is warm and friendly, which makes guests feel special.

We spent five wonderful days here and are planning to return at a higher season. The village was very quiet (which we didn't mind) and many businesses, especially restaurants were closed. Summer skiing in Saas Fee is also closed in June so we drove to Zermatt to spend a day…a real contrast as Zermatt was full of tourists! I do love both places for their beauty and for being pedestrian-only villages.

The Allalin hotel was just perfect!
Great food, very friendly staff, and wonderful rooms.
We went during the Summer of 2010, though there was no sking, the hotel was a wonderful place to just relax. Waking up in such a quite environment, in such a nice room with a wonderful view, was just perfect.
A big thank you to the wonderful hospitable family.

“Excellent Hotel and service, but Saas-Fee ski infrastructure?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

Six of us stayed in the superior rooms which were very clean, modern and comfortable. We travelled on a package with Ingham's and paid (directly to the hotel) 40 CHF extra per night per room for an upgrade to superior rooms. We didn't see the standard rooms so we can't compare. The service in the restaurant was excellent with really good attention to detail. Food - We were staying on a half-board package and therefore a table d'hôte evening menu with two choices of mains. The choice was usually between a fish and meat. The quality of the cooking was very good, however on several occasions the same sauce was used on the fish as on the meat, which we found rather odd, and whilst we appreciate the economies involved with a table d'hôte menu, it would have been better with individual sauces. This is a minor criticism as good ingredients were always used. Reception: - always helpful, but we felt (as previous reviewer) that there should be a little more help and guidance on mountain restaurants. Travel around the resort : The lockup for skis by the Alpin Express is very useful, but we were never actually offered a lift down, which we may have been entitled to by the sound of the previous review. A ski briefing on our first morning of what we might be able to expect would probably have got over this, however it did not cause us too much of a problem, except on the last day when one of the party was ill (which the hotel knew) and we had to lug all our stuff (+1) back to the hire shop. Overall we rate the hotel as Very Good.
Skiing - we feel we have to echo the previous reviewer again in saying that the infrastructure around the ski area is dated, which is quite surprising when you think about Swiss efficiency and engineering skill. Far too many Poma's and T bars and very slow bubbles so getting around was tedious. Pistes were beautifully groomed.

Dear Sian Brown,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at our hotel and are glad you have enjoyed your overall stay. We will take your comment about the sauces into consideration, thank you. Usually we drive our guests to the slopes upon request, mostly however only the first and last day with all the skiing gear. On the other days many people like to walk or take the free ski bus which stops just in front of the hotel. We are very sorry you were not offered this service and had to carry your equipment back to the hire shop. Regarding the ski infrastructure I have good news: the cable car company will build a brand new cable car within the next two years which will go from the village all the way to the top of the mountain with several stops in between. Once again, thanks for the review and have you a good summer!

“Brilliant Saas Fee Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2011

person found this review helpful

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Allalin with another couple for a week. In short, the hotel was clean and smart. The staff were very accommodating, friendly, chatty (but not too chatty) and helpful. Perhaps they could have a little more knowledge about the skiing, pistes and mountain restaurants?
The food was beautifully prepared and presented. By the middle of the week though, we just wanted something simple like a pizza! So we ate out one night. 5 courses every night was too much really. The wines are very good.
On the downside - it took an hour from leaving the hotel to clicking into our skis at the top of the mountain. Admittedly we could've exited the gondola at the 1st stage. The Alpin Express is anything but express!!! If you get off at the top of the gondola, you are faced with significant walks through the tunnel (c 300 metres) to the pistes or the funicular railway to the top. However, this is criticism of Saas Fee, not the hotel. They need to spend some money on the lift system soon.
Basically, the hotel is fab. It a distance from the ski lifts, but regularly provides it's own electric cart to take you. It's also away from the apres ski bars, which means it's quiet. It also means you have to stagger further!
Our room was on 2 levels, with a bathroom, kitchenette, dining & lounge areas downstairs and on the first floor a mezanine with a double bed and a bedroom with 2 queen size beds together & a handbasin / vanity sink. Very clean, good quality linen and furniture.
Overall - excellent hotel and staff

Dear BoomerAH,

thank you for your review. You and your friends were very entertaining guests to accommodate and we sure had good fun chatting with you every evening. We will make sure to instruct our employees better about the slopes/restaurants. Many of them don’t ski at all and that might explain the limited knowledge. Regarding the ski infrastructure I have good news: the cable car company will build a brand new cable car within the next two years which will go from the village all the way to the top of the mountain with several stops in between. We would like to thank you and your friends for staying with us and hope to see you again at the Allalin. Cheers!
