“outdated, over-priced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

Be very careful when booking any hotel in this area claiming to have a "wellness" centre . We paid a fortune for two rooms in this hotel on the basis that it would be great to have the chance to relax in the spa! The website failed to mention that you HAVE to be naked. I have no problem if a hotel chooses to have a naked spa but please indicate this on website etc.. so that I can exercise a choice. The swimming pool area smelt "stagnant" and the whirlpool was luke warm. One room was ok the other was badly in need of a complete overhaul. The mini bars have been replaced by a vending machine with astronomical prices for all drinks including water. Get to breakfast early if you want any choice of food. the shuttle only operates until 12 noon and there is only one. However the billiard room is good. I know this area well, Saas Fee is great, this hotel is not.

“Great place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

Very friendly staff. Quiet hotel, lots of charm. I guess you could call it modern and traditional. Excellent wellness center. The indoor pool is small but at least there is one ! And sparkling clean. Nice Jacuzzi, Sauna, Hamman...and the little specials, like fresh towels, hot tea, fruits. I know like it sounds as if I were paid to write this, but I'm not. We just had a great weekend and loved the hotel. The room is certainly not big by any standard, but it's big enough. And super comfortable. Everything worked. Nice view of old Saas-Fee, and of course the Alps are all around you !!

“Not so grand”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

Saas Fee is a car free zone. Transport is a little electric buggy a little like milk floats. The hotel is centrally placed. Transport to the slopes from the hotel but no return. High altitude which does make you rather breathless. Dining room and meals were very good. the wellness center was well thought out. The rooms resembled a travel lodge( nothing wrong with them but this was supposed to be a 4 star hotel) Bar service sparse as the hotel was quiet. Conditions underfoot very icy and nowhere was any provision made for gritting or salting, lots of people falling over. The day of our departure 6am we had to let ourselves out of the hotel and walk up the slope to the bus with our luggage as there was no transport provided. It was the most expensive lift pass for the smallest area we have experienced.

“Best Western Metropol Grand Hotel meets the highest hospitality standards. Amenities and service exceeded my expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

Best Western Metropol Grand Hotel located in very heart of charming Saas-Fee. Location is convenient with a short walk to any point at the village. Hotel provides complimentary shuttle service but it’s hardly needed. Narrow pleasant Saas-Fes streets provide a unique walking experience in authentic Swiss atmosphere in car free environment. For a New Yorker beauty of Saas-Fee along with breathtaking view on surrounding Alps create unforgettable stunning feeling.

Driving to Saas-Fee is uneasy but totally possible. Very well maintained road zigzags you up to the village and takes about 30 min. You park your car at enormous state of the art 10 story parking garage at reasonable fees. Hotel shuttle picks you and your luggage. Best Western Metropol Grand Hotel is in excellent condition. Live piano and gigantic fireplace instantly create warm and pleasant feeling. Room is large and comfortable as well as bathroom and terrace. There are hot tub, pool, bio sauna, and solarium downstairs. All are excellently kept. In addition there is wellness center for adults only. Wellness center is a must experience in Metropol. It is free of charge and features tropical shower, 360 degree shower, sauna, steam room, chilling bath, and two sleeping rooms with water mattresses. Wellness center is highly recommended after day of skiing.

Saas-fees skiing is rather scenic experience - very romantic but boring. They don't have many trails but spectacular rides up on various gondolas. At the summit there is a revolving restaurant with authentic (and international) food and stunning views. Allow an hour for your lunch to fully enjoy spectacular surrounding picks in full revolt. This restaurant is a must in clear weather.

Treat yourself with a few days at Best Western Metropol Grand Hotel in Saas-Fee and enjoy the memories for the rest of your life.

“Feng Shui?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2009

We spent a weekend in this hotel at the beginning of December. Just the two of us - no kids. My man and I needed a quiet relaxing two days. The reason we chose this hotel is because of the wellness area. We saw beautiful pictures of it .... Hotel rate included a 6 course meal. so - off we went.
Great thing about Saas-Fee is that it's car free. So quiet and peaceful. There's a big parking at the entrance of the town - you have to leave your car there. You can drive to top level to drop off your luggage and then park the car properly. At top level there are phones & directories everywhere to allow you to call your hotel or a taxi (electrically powered). At hotel reception or tourist office, you can get a parking fee discount.
We were picked up literally 5min after we called the hotel. We were welcomed by a warm smile from owner who speaks at least 4 languages and we got a cocktail. Rooms are medium size but clean and functional. Wellness area is small but new and very "feng shui". Only open in the afternoon. Warning - it's for men and women and no bathing suits allowed. If you don't like being naked in front of strangers, you should avoid. Didn't try the pool because heard some hotel guests say the water was cold ...
As for the meal - the restaurant is called Feng Shui (weird name for a place in the middle of the Swiss Alps) and serves either a Fondue Chinoise (thin slices of meat in broth) or one other menu. Not a lot of choice there ... and I personnally would have preferred to eat a typical swiss winter dish. Like the breakfast, the dinner is served like a buffet so you often get up to help yourself. Nothing exceptional here foodwise.
Opposite the hotel though is a pizzeria who do happy hour at 15:00. All pizzas for CHF13.-
All in all, we had a good stay mainly because of the service. Everyone very nice and helpful. The town is beautiful especially because of the majestic mountains surrounding it. Splendid ! Should have gone skiing though - the weather was perfect!
Will definitely return to Saas-Fee - might try a different hotel though.
