If you have ever wanted to stay at a great Swiss hotel in the Alps, and had the classic Swiss hotel management by the sixth generation of the original owner, this is the place. Swiss hotel management is like French cusine, when it is great, there is none like it in the modern world. This is not like most great hotels in the world, an investment property run by a chain. This is skilled family, where the family members have trained all over the world and returned here to take care of their clients.

I stayed in the Waldhaus in January - my second time. Having visited many of the hotels in the area over the years and stayed in some of them I think the Waldhaus is in a league of its own. The location is peerless, the bedrooms very comfortable and the food is excellent, the bar, the reading rooms and the various common areas are wonderful. Everyone who works at the hotel seems to take a great pride in it and in making one's stay special.

Ski location is great - a wonderful Intersport where you can hire everything and the lifts are 5 minutes by hotel mini bus

In a world of formulaic 5 Star this is the real deal

This is a 5 star hotel at its best. The beds are to die for - fluffy white quilts, crisp,clean sheets. Most rooms have gorgeous views - but then in Switzerland, every view is wonderful. The service is attentive and helpful. The location of the hotel is ideal for short or long excursions - you can even take a short drive over to Italy for lunch. The hotel has a lovely indoor pool, steam rooms, large comfy areas to just read and relax, tennis courts, ping pong table and even mini golf. The restaurant for me is the least exceptional. Everyone is very nice, but the dinner takes hours - service is very, very slow - and the food is not at all to my liking. They try to be very "fancy-interesting" and most things are pretty bad. When they stick to basics, the food is good. This is a very unpretentious, old-time, elegant hotel located in paradise. If you are looking for shopping and nightlife, St. Moritz is only 20 minutes away.
