We really enjoyed both the town of Pontresina and the Hotel Rosatsch in Pontresina.
The staff is excellent. The staff is fluent in English, very helpful, and their dress is professional.
The facility was in great condition. I noticed that there was a corporate business meeting going on at the hotel. I thought it was a great idea for companies to hold off-site meetings at this hotel because the hotel amenities are very good and in good condition.
I looked forward to using the spa area. I was left to explore the spa area alone while my partner decided to read in our room. It was a bit of a tricky endeavor making my way around the spa because I don't understand German so couldn't understand any of the informational signs and promotional literature. Since I was alone, though, I was able free to explore on my own - and I'm sure I broke some rules along the way out of sheer ignorance.
I loved the pool, aromatherapy shower (never experienced that before!), and steamroom. I was lucky enough to have them all to myself...no other guests were using the facilities for most of the time I was there.
We liked the sophisticated artwork in the hallways. Whoever was in charge of artwork did a great job.
Our room was very nice! Knotty pine wood all around the room. Comfortable, clean room.
The town is quaint and the mountains are breathtaking in Pontresina. I'm glad we didn't stay in St. Moritz. St. Moritz was nice to see, but, to me, as pretty a town as Pontresina. Pontresina is uncongested, also.
We took the train to the Pontresina train station and got a cab for the short ride to the hotel, because it's a bit of a hike to the hotel. The train station is NOT in the center of town. The hotel is situated right in town, however, and there are shops right there on the same street.
We took the local bus to St. Moritz (#2). We took another bus in St. Moritz to get a feel for the town (I believe it was bus #3). Be sure to buy your bus ticket in Pontresina BEFORE getting on the bus. If you get caught for not having a ticket, you can be fined.
My only suggestion to the hotel management would be to upgrade the promotional flyers on the bulletin boards to show information in various languages to help foreign travellers know what is available at the hotel. Also, I'm not sure of they run the Romana restaurant or lease out the space, but the menu should be available in many languages - not just German. It was tricky understanding the menu and our waiter didn't understand English.
I don't want to fault this quaint hotel for not being more international in its literature, so I didn't reflect it in the rating.
I chose this hotel for price (the rates are among the least expensive in the St. Moritz area) and location. I think I got a great deal. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
