“a weekend in Pontresina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Hotel Saratz in Pontresina is a good place to stay for couples with children looking for skiing destination. The hotel has a beautiful dining room, spectacular views over snowy mountains and is close to slopes , sledging routes and trendy apres ski spots in St. Moritz.
The hotel swimming pool is not large, but big enough for children to swim and the sun terrace attached to the pool area is a wonderful place to relax with unobstructed mountain view just in front. The hotel also has a Spa - beauty and massages for exhausted skiers and overall service is friendly and attentive. The rooms are spacious, if a bit impersonal. A nice touch is to offer guests a chance to pre-order local produce of dried meats, jams, fresh bread and cookies to take back home

“The most relaxing thing while traveling is to...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

The most relaxing thing while traveling is to know that you don't have to worry about a thing, it'll be taken care of politely and efficiently. That is perfectly true of the quietly perfect service you can expect to receive at the Saratz.

Pick you up at and deliver you back to the train station? Offer to serve you a free drink on the terrace while you wait for the desk staff to check in another guest? Provide you with a free pass for all regional transportation, including mountain lifts, during your stay? Give you a helmet and lock for the mountain bike you want to borrow from the hotel during your stay? Or one of the motor-assisted bikes? Or the BMW motorcycles? Oh yeah. And plenty more.

The three restaurants we tried at the Saratz were all excellent, with wonderful service and delightful wine lists. The breakfast buffet is a joy, even in a country known for lovely breakfast buffets. (This last visit was during the high season, but we know from previous stays that the restaurant choices and size of the breakfast buffet is reduced during the low season, but it's still good.)

Our room was spacious and comfortable, with good sheets and a nice bathroom. We requested a view room and I suggest you do the same.

The spa is free to guests and amazing: whirlpools, swimming pool and solarium with a view of the Rosegg Valley, sauna, steam room, chilled water tub, and hamman. Massages and other special treatments are extra and also worth it.

There is a much fancier hotel next door and loads of other nice hotels in the area, but my heart is with the comforts and guaranteed relaxation of the Saratz.

“4* Hotel with 5* service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife and I have just returned from 12 days in Switzerland over the Christmas period. We were fortunate enough to stay at the Saratz for 4 of those nights. From the welcome in reception on our arrival to our departure we were overwhelmed by the courtesy, efficiency and friendliness of the staff, every one of them. Our room was exceptional, and the storage space was the best we have ever had, anywhere. The bathroom was huge with a rainforest shower, and again plenty of space/shelving to store our own items. The food in the restaurants was first class, especially the main restaurant, where the vegetarian choices were inspired. The fondue and raclette "cave" was very cosy and great fun. Breakfasts were so wonderful, such a wide choice and always being replenished. I counted nine different types of bread available at breakfast.
Would we recommend this hotel? Absolutely, for all of the reasons above, but most of all the staff who were just so incredibly good. It was also great to have an indoor pool available, a welcome relief after coming back from a day's sightseeing.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the valley, towards the railway station have wonderful views (ours did, no. 107)

“3 Generation Gathering”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Our son and daughter-in-law selected the Saratz as a site for a 3 night visit with them and their 3 year and 5 year old children. We stayed in the older section which was comfortable, not stuffy. The well-trained staff worked seamlessly for us all. It is definitely child-friendly. We enjoyed a delightful horse-drawn wagon ride thru gently falling snow flakes while under warm blankets - to a wonderful restaurant at the end of the valley. The early snow continued as we took exciting lifts to nearby mountains using passes provided by Saratz. The in-house chidren's activity room was available and used. A ride to nearby Saint Moritz and the small Giovanni Segantini museum with his wonderful paintings of scenes of people and animals from the Alps even appealed to the children. The breakfast was more than adequate and even provided a children's table of healthy selections. We ate dinner at all of the hotel restaurants and found that although the food and service were excellent, it would be more appropriate for older children to last the 3 hours in the main dining room. The restaurant in the cave for fondue as well as the other one worked well. Having made at least 20 trips to Switzerland over the past 7 years our son and family have lived there - we found this to be the highlight of all trips. The Saratz excelled in warm hospitality that we who live in a southern state of the USA known for its' hospitality would find hard to match !!!

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the nearby mountains.

“Pleasure in automn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We stay at the Saratz usually for ski holidays. This was our first time herer in autumn. In winter, we always ask for a room on the top floor for a good view (in the Ela Tuff section). Now, we got a room on the lowest level with a patio and sun chairs and umbrella. The weather was warm and nice, so we could sit outside. In summer/autumn, I suggest to ask for room on the lowest floor with a private patio. All other rooms at Ela Tuff wing do not have a balcony. In winter time when its too cold to sit outside, I would go for a room on the top floor with nice mountain view.
The outdoor swimming pool is beautifully located in a big park.

Room Tip: In winter on the top floor for the mountain view, in summer on the ground floor with private patio a...
