We arrived in Klosters without reservations (after deciding to pass on busy, overbuilt, Davos). The first two hotels quoted us really high rates, the third was less expensive but didn't look very nice, so we splurged and stayed at the Walserhof, which was not as high as the first hotel, but still very expensive for someone paying in dollars. We ate in the very pretty restaurant, where the food was excellent (also expensive). We should have asked first how much the bottle of wine they recommended was! But really, the experience, from the amuse- bouche (including the best soup I have ever had) to the complimentary plate of chocolates was a real experience. Despite the fact that we came in without reservations, and a bit bedraggled from a long day of travel everyone treated us with charm and respect. The chef indulged my mother by posing for pictures with her. The rooms are decorated simply in an Alpine style, with great beds and linens. The breakfast included homemade croissants, cappuccinos, amazing omelets, fresh squeezed juice, plus the usual buffet.
This is a small, comfortable hotel with fantastic service. It has a cute little lobby for guests, an outdoor patio for lunch, and a lot of the rooms have balconies, but there are no grounds ---it is not one of the grand hotels you see in this area --which is fine with me. I think it would be even more romantic in the winter.
