Spent the weekend in Flims to do some skiing while in Switzerland for work. I picked the Des Alpes because I had stayed there a few years ago. First thing I noticed upon returning is that it is no longer a Best Western property. It would be difficult to tell since everything is still covered in Best Western logos.
The location of the hotel is a bit away from the slopes. Fortunately, the shuttle bus picks up just behind the hotel. It runs about every 15 minutes so if you miss one, the next is just around the corner. Everything else is a bit of a walk away. About 10-15 minute walk down the hill to get to the heart of Flims. Not too bad at all.
The rooms are dated. Everything from the TV, to the lights, to the decor looks like it's out of the mid to late 70's. My room had a wired internet connection but it only worked intermittently. Otherwise, the room was good. Comfortable bed, nice balcony, even a small kitchenette.
Service in the hotel was good.
My biggest gripe was with the restaurant. Specifically, they seemed a bit overwhelmed. With only three people serving tables in a full house on a Saturday night, service was slow. The same for the previous Friday. Pizza and pasta seem to be there thing. Food was good. Breakfast spread was a bit limited but just enough to get the day going.
Other things such as the small indoor pool, ski room and sauna were just fine.
A definite plus is the value. Pretty good rates for the town.
