“Mid range resort hotel, good spa, service variable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2011

Based on 5 days in March:
Good: Spa, rooms, shuttle bus, location, ski room, a la carte restaurants, breakfast, maitre d', frequent presence of owners at dinner, the very attentive manner in which a complaint was handled and Powder Byrne.
Not so Good: service in the main restaurant, especially at dinner, the main dining room feels like a canteen and needs updating, the Half Board dinner is a real let down.

We would stay again and are happy to recommend it.

“Welcoming, friendly & revamped!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

I have stayed at the Adula at least 7 times over the past 6 years and have grown to really love the hotel. (We are a family of 6 with children now aged from 3 - 18!) Having just returned I can say that the hotel is continuing to make improvements. The lounge / bar area has all new furniture/ flooring and is now quite contemporary but still with a 'mountain' ambiance (log fire etc!) and I think they are making improvements to the kitchens and adding a new terrace to the main restaurant which will have a lovely view of the mountains.

The rooms on the 4th floor of the main building have been redone and are now quite smart and up to date. The hotel is very clean, well managed and friendly. Not all the staff speak perfect English but most are extremely competant and if you make an effort you will find that they are extremely friendly behind the professional front. I think some other reviewers have mistaken the manner of the staff as offhand or unfriendly but I think whilst there is still an air of formality it is not stuffiness and when you ask questions they are delighted and more than happy to chat and help. I have seen staff walking around the main restaurant with little ones on their hip to keep them entertained whilst mum and dad have dinner before now so relax! They don't mind kids and whilst they are mindful of the range of guests they have - ie. from business people to families to older people they are very flexible.

The dinner on the half board basis is quite formal, but they do offer pasta etc. for children and do a 'children's tea' sitting early evening in the 'La Clav' restaurant. When my son was a baby the chef was also more than happy to puree anything I asked for such as chicken and vegetables, so if you ask for something that is not on the menu for 'kids' you will be unlikely to be turned down. Don't be afraid to ask in this hotel the staff will do their best to accomodate you!

We have always holidayed there with Powder Byrne (who are beyond excellent) but I still love the Adula in it's own right. The pool is lovely, the wellness centre is AMAZING if you don't mind being naked, the outside spa pool is fabulous after a days skiiing and the kids love the warm water and bubbles! We have also stayed in the summer and Flims is full of things to do from paragliding to mountain biking and white water rafting etc. The beautiful lake is a short walk from the Adula, and in the winter you can take a horse drawn carriage through the woods to a fantastic restaurant at Conn with a stunning viewing terrace over the Rhine valley.

This is not a boutique hotel, it is not a 'hip' hotel but it has a family run feel, it is improving year on year vis a vis the interior design and facilities and it is honestly very friendly and really tolerant of children. I should know as mine have strewn cake crumbs and breakfast debris all over it in the past! With the Adula you get what you ask for, so don't be afraid to ask! Oh, and to all those saying the wine is expensive it can be but no more so than other swiss hotels. You should ask the waiter to recommend a local wine, some of which are excellent. I love this place!

“Hotel too hot, formal, and German”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2010

Booked this with Powder Byrne who were very helpful and friendly. Hotel is very nice, spotlessly clean and well managed.
Biggest problem was our room and the public areas were unbearably hot. You can not contol the heating in your own room which meant we had very little sleep. We had to sleep under sheets with the door open, not ideal with a 5 year old. The dining although OK was very formal, and no great choice for children. Our Son usually just eats smaller portions of our food, but as the food was geared towards adults, the choice for kids was spagetti or chicken nuggets. The wine was very pricey.
Flims is very nice but in the Hotel and all other places we ate on the moutain, unless you speak German/Swiss you have to ask a member of staff to translate the menu, which was a bit embarrasing all the time.
Hotel shuttle bus to the slopes was very efficient, but Hotel is in a very smart suburb of Flims, so very quiet, with no bars to have a apres ski drink in.
Flims and this Hotel Adula are advertised as Family Friendly, but I wood disagree, mainly because of the position of the hotel, and it's formality, which made it a little uncomfortable. Don't go to Flims unless you speak German, and/or you want to stay in a very quiet and formal enviroment, and don't mind a bus to the lifts.
On the plus side, skiing was good, no queues, and food on the moutain very good. (once you know what is on the menu)

“I love this hotel”

Skiing trip to Flims in Feb 09.
I have stayed at the Adula many times and think it is the a lovely place to stay.
Hotel is clean and well maitained.
The outdoor Jacuzzi is amazing after a long days skiing, although the 'welness' area has far too many naked old people around for me.
The room was great as was the food
Can't fault the place!

“An Tradition Swiss Hotel with Fantastic Spa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2009

You can't fault this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The owner Peter Hotz is friendly and welcoming. The food is top class and if you stay for a week, and have the dine around option, you can eat for one night in the Barga which is exceptional. I have no idea where the previous reviewer stayed nor what his expectations were but I can't believe anyone who stays here would be dissappointed.
