“Hotel too hot, formal, and German”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2010

Booked this with Powder Byrne who were very helpful and friendly. Hotel is very nice, spotlessly clean and well managed.
Biggest problem was our room and the public areas were unbearably hot. You can not contol the heating in your own room which meant we had very little sleep. We had to sleep under sheets with the door open, not ideal with a 5 year old. The dining although OK was very formal, and no great choice for children. Our Son usually just eats smaller portions of our food, but as the food was geared towards adults, the choice for kids was spagetti or chicken nuggets. The wine was very pricey.
Flims is very nice but in the Hotel and all other places we ate on the moutain, unless you speak German/Swiss you have to ask a member of staff to translate the menu, which was a bit embarrasing all the time.
Hotel shuttle bus to the slopes was very efficient, but Hotel is in a very smart suburb of Flims, so very quiet, with no bars to have a apres ski drink in.
Flims and this Hotel Adula are advertised as Family Friendly, but I wood disagree, mainly because of the position of the hotel, and it's formality, which made it a little uncomfortable. Don't go to Flims unless you speak German, and/or you want to stay in a very quiet and formal enviroment, and don't mind a bus to the lifts.
On the plus side, skiing was good, no queues, and food on the moutain very good. (once you know what is on the menu)

“I love this hotel”

Skiing trip to Flims in Feb 09.
I have stayed at the Adula many times and think it is the a lovely place to stay.
Hotel is clean and well maitained.
The outdoor Jacuzzi is amazing after a long days skiing, although the 'welness' area has far too many naked old people around for me.
The room was great as was the food
Can't fault the place!

“An Tradition Swiss Hotel with Fantastic Spa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2009

You can't fault this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The owner Peter Hotz is friendly and welcoming. The food is top class and if you stay for a week, and have the dine around option, you can eat for one night in the Barga which is exceptional. I have no idea where the previous reviewer stayed nor what his expectations were but I can't believe anyone who stays here would be dissappointed.

“Awful Service - truly terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2009

Att’n Peter Holz

I write to express my wholehearted disappointment at the service we received at your hotel 27/12 – 03/01. You have a wonderful facility with a delightful location and incredible facilities which is completely ruined by the people and service within your establishment. I travel regularly for work and I am incredulous at the amazingly poor attitude of your personnel. Rude, surly, un helpful overly beauracratic, miserable the list of wholly negative sentiment is un-ending. Some specific examples

On arrival you will find most guests have had a long journey and do not wish to be met with petty form filling which after 6 months of email exchange should be un-necessary.
When seated for breakfast some service which provided hot beveredges within a reasonable time would be positive.
At dinner the service was truly awful; slow un-reliable and only improved after repeated complaints.
For your heavily promoted “New Year Ball” we were seated in the lobby of the hotel furthest from the band whilst our regular table was sold to “more deserving” guests.
You charge the ridiculous petty amount for a replacement room key
Your accounting staff fail to provide an accurate account; refusing even to correct this until “keys” are returned.

I only hope that no future guests are exposed to this un-remitting pathetic service. I will attempt to ensure no individual I am connected with is ever forced to endure the awfulness of your personnel.

Hoping never to be unfortunate enough to contact your establishment again.

Yours sincerely

Ian Harley

“Realxing stay”

We booked half-board at this hotel through Powder Bryne for a week in July. The attraction was the Powder Bryne's Kid's club (only available for certain times of the year and only when you book through PB).

The hotel was very relaxing - with a fantastic spa (3 sauna's, 3 types of shower etc). There is a large indoor pool and a jacuzzi one. There were a few nice touches - such as free tea and cakes 3pm -5pm and a piano player in the evenings.

The breakfast buffet was extensive but the half-board dinners a disappointment for a hotel of this class and the wine very expensive. If you go to the Hotel owned La Clav restaurant next door there is a discount of only 10 euro - which is derisory!

Our room - which we shared with our two children - was too small for four. There was no light on the balcony (important when sharing with young children). The staff did nothing to help so we managed to rig something up ourselves.

Flims is wonderful in Summer - so much to do. Without the kid's club we would not return though.
