This hotel was conveniently located near town in the valley adjacent to and overlooking the gardens and the Stockalper Castle. The hotel room we had on the 3rd Floor was ‘very’ basic. The breakfast was home-style continental but wholesome. However, in compensation …. from the balcony, the air was fresh and clean; the surrounding mountains were spectacular (including the Eiger) and we had views of various glaciers. The hotel is located on the road to take to and over the Simplon Pass (road open only in Summer - definitely a must do for breathtaking scenery).

We stayed in a top floor family room for one night whilst passing through the valley and accomodation was spacious with separate shower and bathroom, bunks in separate kids room, and fine view over Brig and the castle.
Weather was warm so the cool stream running through the park in front of the hotel was great for kids to splash around in and plenty of restaurants within an easy walk; further afield, not far to Saas-Fee, Zermatt and the associated attractions.
Good choice at breakfast and attentive staff are further positives.
Some downsides - odd bits of the hotel look rather weary (broken slats on one of the bunks, lack of rollbar, small window that would not open), lift has no integral door so the external doors and the wall of the shaft pass by as you travel so kids have to be kept aware) but overall positive for a short stay.

The website of this hotel makes the hotel look like a very stylish and modern hotel. When you first arrive there, this is unfortunately not true. It is more of a budget hotel (with not so budget prices), with an awesome location.
The hotel looks directly onto the castle of Brig, which is indeed very pretty. The standard rooms are very small and the bathroom was kind of dark and not big at all. Everything was clean, so this was not an issue at all. Breakfast was OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. Brig itself is a small little town, but in 2 days one has probably explored everything worth seeing in the town.

I was a bit disappointed by this hotel, perhaps because my expectations were unrealistically high having stayed in excellent hotels in Switzerland previously. The location is good, right next to the Castle in Brig. Saying that, Brig is a small place so nowhere is that far from anywhere. Brig itself is centrally located with good transport links and nice views of surrounding mountains, and the castle adds a bit of interest.

The room I had was small and really bare with white walls and a hard floor. I found it quite depressing. Perhaps it wouldn't have mattered if I was with a group or partner, but as a lone traveller I rather dreaded going back to it. I suspect that it had probably gone unused for some time before my stay. It was adquately clean but there were several spiders and when I used the shower a huge millipede fell on me! I was seriously unimpressed by that.

My room had a sink and shower but no toilet, the toilet was located in the corridor just outside. I'm not sure if it was shared or not. It was a bit inconvenient. Annoyingly there was no soap in the toilet sink or the sink in my room - there was liquid soap in the shower but again it was inconvenient when trying to wash the hands.

On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the super warm duvet meant I was comfortable all night. The staff were pleasant. The breakfast was adequate, a cold buffet, though nothing special.

Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again myself as I did find the room a bit depressing and didn't like all the insect life. But probably in higher season and in a group or with a partner it would be just fine.
