From the website this looked as if it was a charming, informal and low key hotel. We stayed in one of the pavillion rooms as opposed to the main castle which was a mistake. The pavillion rooms had a real travelodge feeling to them – very basic and no real charm or character. The main castle was lovely from the bit that we saw when checking in and out and the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was like a 1970’s time warp with a stifiling, quiet atmosphere in the restaurant and no real choice. Overall we were disappointed!!

My Mother (a crazy-avid world traveler) recently discovered this place; my husband and I've been back twice in a month. It's one of those places I think maybe I should keep a secret lest you all rush it and its prices go sky-high. Just kidding. No real danger of that, as it's just not the same category as its pricey neighbor, the Quellenhof.

The Schloss is great, though, if you want an affordable, quiet, relaxing vacation, nothing fancy... if you want to read by the pool, play golf, go for long walks (in our case with our very large dog), lounge in the sauna and head to the bad for an afternoon. That's what we just did and upon checkout they informed us we'd not been quoted the lowest rate and so our bill was significantly lower than anticipated.

Not to get your hopes up or anything... but how often does that happen?!

Note: we haven't stayed in the Avantgarde rooms yet but understand they're renovated and much nicer. The castle room my Mom stayed in was gorgeous. We stay in rather dated and worn rooms near the sauna (not up to my business traveler standards, but perfect with our giant dog). The only down side here is there is no Internet in the rooms.
We love this place and will go back over and over.

We had a winter weekend in Switzerland and decided to stay central in the Eastern part of the country. After checking the web, we decided to go for Hotel Schloss Ragaz instead of the big belle epoque hotels in the village.

Hotel Schloss Ragazz is an old private castle, turned into a hotel some years ago. We stayed not in the caste itself, but in the newly build garden wing. Our room was 45 sqm, with a seating area, big bed, huge bathroom and all brand new. No fancy design, but comfortable and nicely made.
In the castle itself there are several lounges, all with beautiful furniture and original decoration. The breakfast is also served here, very good with birchermüesli!

There is also a new build spa in the garden, with different kinds of showers, steambath, sauna, whirpools etc. In the garden there is a big pool and a tennis court, but since it was february they were both closed.

Liechtenstein and Vaduz is only a 10 minutes drive away. We also made daytrips to Klosters, Davos and St.Mortiz. It is a truly beautiful area. From the airport to the hotel it takes around 1,5 hours.

The village of Bad Ragaz is in walking distance from the hotel, and we had dinner down there each night. In one of the big hotels there are also a casino of good standard if you feel like gambling in the alpine air...!

If you would like a weekend in Switzerland, Hotel Schloss Bad Ragaz is a perfect base for exploring the countryside! For sure we will return!

Me, my wife and our two kids (3 months; 2 1/2 years) spent three very nice days in this hotel. Because we liked it that much we spontaneously decided to prolong our stay to four days. The hotel is located at the very end of Bad Ragaz, next to a golf course. It's the right choice if you are seeking quiteness and relaxation. The pool and the sauna area are clean and quite modern. The guests are mostly elderly couples but there were also younger guests. The breakfast (as well as the coffee) was a bit poor but ok. The thermes, the city centre and the beautiful lake are in walking distance. After having visited Bad Ragaz, we're pretty sure to have found the hotel that matched our needs best. Strictly recommendable if you really just want to relax.
