We booked three nights at the Elbterrasse. To get there you have to use the chain ferry from Coswig (which is unmanned after 9 pm) or drive three miles from Worlitz proper on an uncomfortable cobbled road. The car park is edged by bushes which we accidentally disturbed releasing a cloud of viscious mosquitoes. We had booked a balcony room overlooking the river, but I didn't fancy the prospect of acquiring another dozen bites while admiring the view! The exterior of the hotel was in need of repainting and the reception area was strictly utilitarian and shabby. We couldn't face being marooned there in discomfort, so we cancelled our booking there and then and retreated to Wittenberg. The owner claimed that everywhere had a mosquito problem in September, but during the next few days in that area we saw or heard only the occasional one.
