“Lovely location, enjoy the week-end brunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2010

We stayed on Friday night at this hotel, enabling us to enjoy the excellent Saturday sparkling local wine brunch - make sure you have the time to relax and enjoy this! We also had a beautiful room overlooking the river. We arrived shortly after 6 in the evening, and whilst a note had been left for us to get to our room, and we had no problems, the restaurant and front desk had closed. If you arrive by train, be aware that the hotel is a little distance from the railway station, although convenient for the boats. There is obviously current building work going on at the hotel next door, so I am not sure if this would interfere with a week-day stay.

“Great location overlooking Moselle River, close to the town.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2010

Hotel Germania is in an excellent location and has its own cafe selling delicious German cakes and coffee. The only downside was that the front desk was in the cafe and the cafe closed at 6pm. The hotel has a lift but to access this lift there is a flight of stairs and would therefore not be suitable for disabled travellers. The room was spacious and clean and overlooked the river. The breakfast was delicious with various hot and cold food.

“Comment on the restaurant, not the hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2010

I just wanted to comment on the restaurant and not the hotel as I did not stay there, just had lunch on 20/01/10...

We ordered 2 cokes, we received 2 coke lights which are 20 cents more expentise, then we ordered bockwurst mit brod ( sausage with bread ), we received wiener wursts with potato salad which was €2.20 more expensive per person, what a rip off and they didnt speak English so we didnt want to start arguying to receive what we had actually ordered because our German is basic so what should have cost us a tenner, cost us 15. not that its a big difference but its not what we had ordered and this, with drinks and food....

“Could have been worse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

Recently traveled through Germany with my wife. Picked Hotel Germania based on TripAdvisor member recommendations.

Pros:
* Easy to find
* Good location right on the Mosel River
* Inexpensive

Cons:
* Room smelled of carpet deodorizer
* Queen was two uncomfortable twins pushed together
* Unusable wall safe
* The smallest shower known to man

I have to admit, the staff was very nice at this hotel. We called ahead on a cell phone to tell the staff that we were going to arrive at 7pm. Sara did the check-in on the telephone and placed our key and parking pass in a small safe accessible from the outside. That was very convenient and appreciated.

Breakfast was also very nice with the typical European-style buffet including eggs, a variety of meats and OJ. Overall a fine experience, but certainly not on par with some of the other hotels we stayed at on our trip. Cochem is a small town, so this might be the best of the bunch. It's hard to say without visiting the other hotels.

“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

Just stayed this past week at the Germania. Very helpful staff, especially Sam, an American working at the hotel. Nice breakfast on the terrace in the morning, rooms were comfortable and a good deal at 69 euro/night. Two issues - it was warm while we were there and with the windows open, you hear all the partying going on in the back of the hotel well into the early AM hours. Room fans would be very appreciated to cool off the rooms and drown out the noise.
2nd issue - the restaurant closes at 6pm and all the staff leaves for the night. We tried calling the after hours number for assistance and no one answered. Would have been concerned if I was a single woman staying at the hotel. Free wifi worked well. Had a great dinner at the Hotel Karl Mueller on the recommendation of the staff.
