“Great location and breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

Our first contact (by phone that evening) with the hotel was extremely pleasant and the owner waited till after 11 pm for our very late arrival. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. Unfortunately, we did have to keep the windows closed since it is in the middle of things and people were talking outside till late and kids walked by in the morning on the way to school. Not a complaint, just a suggestion to ask for a different room when you stay. We were just glad to have this room. The breakfast was wonderful, incl. a machine to squeeze fresh OJ and the best coffee we had on the trip. We'd absolutely stay here again.

“Reasonably priced central hotel with good gourmet food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

An excellent reasonably priced hotel in the centre of old Cochem., which is a lovely old medieaval town in the beautiful Mosel valley. Small, servicable rooms on top floor. Very hot in summer, with no a/c or fans. Very good food, but get a deal before you travel. Otherwise restaurant prices can be very expensive.
Car access and parking are a problem because the hotel is in a car free zone in the town centre. Pay for the hotel garage, but be prepared for an entertaining drive up the town in very steep narrow streets to find it.
Dont miss a visit to the Hotel vineyard in a nearby village. Rural Germany at its best.

“Delightful place to stay in Cochem and a wonderful place to eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

Lovely owners and wonderful restaurant and breakfasts! Room is comfortable and very well kept. Hotel is on a pedestrian street so it is a bit difficult to locate, but worth the effort. Parking garage nearby that was secure and a lovely short walk back to the hotel.

“A unique and difficult hotel to review”

about us--we are mature and used to staying in the finer hotels around the world and generally are keen to stay at the most luxurious locations. we were traveling with our son, and selected this hotel for its central city location and its apparent "charm" and very "un-chain" like feel.

as has been said, the location is very good. we were driving, and its not easy to find! no close parking, but we pulled up into the market square next to the hotel and unloaded our bags. due to unease in navigating the streets to find the car park, they sent a quite charming waitress bar maid to drive with me to ensure I didn't make one of the often repeated wrong turns.

we were in a "large" room by the hotel's standards on the 2nd floor. I found the room small and the bath tiny. it was very clean and reasonably equipped, with nice linens but the most basic bath amenenties. it was cleaned to a high standard daily. were I to compare the room to a U.S. hotel, it would be closer to a standard Holiday Inn or perhaps a Motel 6 room. But, this hotel is more than the basic room; that is why its hard to evaluate. as has been said, the people who own and work in it are nothing short of marvelous and are sincerly keen on making your stay comfortable. whether getting us extra pillows, an ice bucket for our champagne to suggestions on where to rent bikes for a ride along the Moselle they were always ready to help without any hint of our being a burden.

the hotel is close to an old church; charming perhaps, but if 10 minutes of morning bells bothers you, beware. we were there in ideal temperatures, but I would be quite worried in the warmer days of summer as there is no air conditioning and no screens to prevent unwanted bugs from entering. everybody in the hotel was so nice and the dinner at the hotel was of very high qaulity. our meal for the 3 of us with wine/beer and some after dinner drinks came to around 180 euros. a lot, but we felt it was well worth it.

the breakfast was perfect with a very nice spread. while I might stay here again, there simply isn't enough in Cochem of interest to warrant a return trip.

we asked for a laundry close to the hotel as we needed to do a couple loads as our stay in Cochem was 1/2 way through our 2 week car trip. we were told there was no laundry, but we could give the laundry to them to do. in reviewing our bill upon check out there was no charge whatsoever! when has that ever happened; never!! while shirts were not pressed, everything was nicely done and delivered the same afternoon back to our room folded quite nicely.

once again, this hotel is more than its simple room, but it becomes necessary (in my opinion) to get past the modest accomodations, at least if you are used to more high end hotels. all and all a very fun stay here. oh, there was also no charge for parking or for the wifi. the people are great, not the warm cuddly kind (after all this is Germany), but always trying to help and very professional.

“The restaurant was incredible, and the room was delightful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2009

Our room was immaculate, and the hotel staff were very helpful. Our dinner was the most memorable of our trip to Germany! Cochem has an ideal location on the Mosel River--I wish we could have been there in better weather! Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time. Fortunately, the city's "gingerbread" castle was open for tours. We were lucky to be the only guests on our tour ; thus, the guide spoke English for us! We had a most informative visit.
