“An average hotl”

We had booked this hotel after that we had reviewed some reviews on Tripadvisor and Booking.com. I have to say that the welcome was very pleasant, the lady spoke well English and explained the ins and outs of the hotel. We had booked a room with a view on the Mosel, these rooms were only possible to book with dinner. The room was good and clean (only there were no amenities in the room), but the dinner was really nothing so special. The cook used a lot of can items, no taste. The dinners were very disappointed especially when you visit the local market and what you can find there of fresh items. When you take a bottle of water to the room then this one is 3 Euro more cheaper than when you drink the same bottle during your dinner.

“Not exactly relaxing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2007

We had a lovely spacious, excruciatingly clean room with a balcony with a great shower that would empty the Mosel. Breakfasts are good with fruit yogurt and muesli as well as the usual fare. The sauna and fitness suite is great.

However there are some things that may make a stay here not as relaxing as you might hope. The best rooms only are available if you book evening meals. The meals are only available between 6-30 and 7-30. (We didn’t arrive at the station until 7 and were told we had to get a taxi so we wouldn’t miss our meal!)

The hotel is locked at 10 o’clock, (night keys were provided) The lights are switched off on the terrace and balcony at the same time. There is no bar – drinks are available before and for a while after dinner then only an ‘honesty fridge’ on the landing with a few beers and wine (and cctv!)

At breakfast there is a menu on the table listing the (two) choices for dinner. You are expected to choose your main course and the time you want to eat whilst eating breakfast.

Evening meals aren’t that great. The starters definitely were the best bits, tomato based sauces over some sort of meat seems to dominate on main courses and very small dollops of cheap ice cream featured for sweet on two nights. They aren’t huge either, I’m a very small eater so larger appetites would be disappointed.

And then there’s a very annoying ‘naf’ china clock in the dining room that very loudly whistles a tune every hour….probably so you don’t linger too long…..

It’s a reasonably good hotel, but unfortunately some aspects seem to be designed for the convenience of the family who own and run it rather than the guests. However there are lots of returning guests so the regime must suit some people. If you don’t have evening meals and want to walk down-and up again- to the village (which is a bit of a ghost town after 7o’clock) for a drink and a meal or if you like early nights it’s OK.

“Nice Hotel & great place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2006

We stayed 2 nights at the hotels in mid November, paying the half board rate so we also ate at the hotel.
The hotel, as others mentioned, is on the other side of the main town, situated a little up the hill. I think it would be a bit of a tough walking up the slope but the drive is only a few minutes.
The hotel was very nice, rooms were plain but comfortable and we had no problems. Bathroom looked pretty new in our room. There was lift to all floors so that was good. We paid for a balcony room but the view wasn't that great. The hotel also had one sitting room with a fire that you can read or have a drink in. It also had a TV room with a very large flat screen TV.
The staff were very friendly and mostly spoke English, the food at dinner was very nice, the half board rate was good but eating 4 courses could be a bit much for more than 2 nights. Breakfast was the typical european style. Overall, the hotel and staff was very good and we felt most welcome.
Cochem is a nice place to visit and the castle overlooking the town is definitely worth the visit.

  • Liked — Friendly staff & free internet access
  • Disliked — No worthwhile view of Moselle River from room
  • Tips/Secrets — You can take a short cut through the town to the castle but you will have fun finding it!

“The most luxurous hotel in Cochem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2004

This hotel was so peaceful! It's located in a strange location, not where all the hotels are but more in a residental area but the good thing with that is that you didn't have to worry about parking problems.

The breakfast here was probably the BEST one my husband and I had during our 2 week Germnay/ Switzerland trip. The had a full buffet of scrambled eggs, sausages, toasts, cereals, hot chocolate, juices, yogurts . . . . I could go on but you get it. They also offered prix fixe dinner menus that were great. This hotel is slightly more expensive than the other hotels but it's worth the price.

The room we had was a balcony room that had a view of the Mosel river and it was so peaceful. I think this hotel is perfect for those who want to visit the Mosel area but don't want to deal with the crowds and the crazy atmosphere of the town. When I stayed in this town 3 years earlier, we stayed on the water and the parking was ridiculous - whe had to go about 3/4 of a mile to find a parking spot!

It's also on the other side of the Cochem castle and you can go for a 2 minute walk to get an AMAZING picture opportunity of the castle. Unfortunately you can't really walk into town (unless you want an uphill hike on your return) so it's best to stay here if you have a car but the hotel may pick you up at the train station.

Will definitely return here again.
