Stayed for 1 night in the Landsknecht whilst on a touring holiday taking in Austria and the Rhine Valley. Due to a change in plans due to bad weather (in Austria) we had nowhere booked and so literally 'walked in' off the street.
We were offered 2 rooms, both of which whilst not directly overlooking the Rhine, (because they were on the side of the hotel) did have a river view. Rates offered were very competitive, particularly as we had not booked in advance.
Along both sides of the Rhine in this area is both a road and railway. Most of the hotels we saw had either the road, railway or both between them and the river. The Landsknecht uses this to its advantage, with a large raised patio being right on the river.
The rooms where clean, quiet (no road or railway noise) and well furnished. It would appear that the hotel has a local reputation for both food and wine, and whilst both were excellent, we did feel they were somewhat more expensive than we had been used to elsewhere. However been able to eat on the terrace watching the river and the boats go by is worth a premium.
Breakfast consisted of a typical European-style buffet, but the choice and quality was excellent and probably the best we had all our holidays.
There isn't much else in the immediate vacinity, and as the nearest train stations are some kilometres away you do need a car. However it would make a good base for seeing this area, and we can well recommend driving to Boppard, catching the train to Bingen and getting one of the cruise boats back.
