We stayed two nights here and had Room #5, which juts out the back of the hotel, has Rhein views on three sides and a perfect look at Burg Maus across the river. The room was huge, nicely decorated in a traditional german way. It had a sitting area, a huge bathroom and cable TV. The restaurant, with outdoor terrace, is both beautiful and has great german selections. They produce (and sell) their own wine, which also was awesome. In fact, Frau Nickenig was once voted the Middle Rhein wine queen. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we had on our two week trip across Germany, Austria and Switzerland--soft boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, juices, coffee and cereals.
There are only a few minor downsides:
1. Location is about a mile north of town, so you either have to hoof it or take a cab if you don't have car.
2. No lift and a winding staircase--only a problem if you have mobility problems or have heavy suitcases
3. The owners are a bit reserved, but friendlier if you attempt some German.
The room cost around 110 euro and was a good value, given it's beautiful surroundings and excellent accommodations.
