“english schoolboys don't deserve these people”

We go since several years to this hotel.
Annie isn't the managing lady, that's misses Dai! Annie helps everyone everywhere she can. She's a lovely person living for her job!
When we came for the first time, the hotel wasn’t so nice indeed, because the present owners hired the place and could not change anything till they bought it. Since that time they are rebuilding the rooms, putting new furniture. So what are they talking about?
We stayed there when they were visited by English schoolboys: awful creatures, never content, never listening to their teachers. Teachers which had not the courage to argue their students!!! Annie had to rule and arrange everything.
So shut up and stay at home! Better for Germany and other hotel-guests that won't be woken up at night by the running and howling of some students that would’nt feel good even in a five stars hotel.
Breakfasts and meals were always ok for us, and we know about good eating!
Read the words of their own busdriver, that says enough!
We recommended the hotel to friends and family: no one complained!

“Hotel from Hell”

We went as part of a school group of 50 over the summer and, though we were not expecting luxury, what greeted us was appaling. The bedrooms contained broken bedframes, unwashed sheets, mould and damp in every corner, rotting window frames and cracked windows, dirty, grubby bathrooms with no hot water and soggy, damp carpet. The rest of the hotel was very dated, with a dingy and extremely odd 'guest lounge' and crowded restaurant space and clutter including chinese busts and statues, far to many potted plants, a fish pond, huge tapestries and pictures. The carpets were worn and several of our party tripped on them, the staff were friendly spoke no english and our german teacher and group leader told us that their german wasnt much better than their english. The food was revolting, watery, greasy soups followed by a whole chicken each and shop bought ice cream. Overall, our stay was very unpleasant, however, the situation on the rhine and the prettiness of the town made up for it.

“Oh dear.”

I stayed at this hotel as a student on a school trip. I wasn't expecting 5 star luxury, but i wasn't expecting this. To be honest this hotel is pointless, why anyone would want to stay here by choice is beyond me. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, but everything else is shocking. When you walk into hotel your greeted by Annie, who is lovely but can come across as rude but isn't.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The reception of the hotel immediately gives a bad impression there's dreary red carpets and dull walls. There's strange chinese figures scattered around too.
THE ROOMS
The rooms were awful. That is the only word that came to mind when I walked in. The carpets in the room are filthy and the decor is dated. There was a tiny bathroom with a sludge green shower, sink & toilet. The plug sockets were dodgy and gave off sparks when you plugged something in. My room 219, was right by the church. The church bell rings every 15 minutes all day every day which is very, very annoying. The bell makes it hard to get a decent night sleep.
THE FOOD
The food in my opinion is horrible. Breakfast was a buffet with bread, meat, cereal & tinned fruit. Luch is a packed lunch which we made ourselves. The packed lunch consisted of a bread roll, your choice of meat, a pack of sweets & juice. Dinner is limited. Being in a school group we got what we were given & if we didn't like it, it was tough. Dinner was soup for a starter. One night we had a frankfurter, another night chinese food & one night we had chicken. The food at the hotel is basically limited and not nice.

I really didn't rate this hotel at all. And I would strongly advise you not to stay here. To be fair it's good value for money, you get what you pay for but it's just not nice! If your looking for a nice holiday then don't stay here is all i would say!

Don't take your family there. Don't take your children there. Don't go there for a romantic get away. Or you will be dissapointed.

“Don't take your family there!”

I went on a 4 day school trip to Hotel Spiegel Garten, and before coming read some awful reviews. I was dreading staying there and as the coach pulled up and we saw Annie ( the hotel manager lady, referred to in the other reviews as the woman who hits you on the side) stood in the dark and dingy and poorly decorated check in, i started to think oh crap it's really gonna be dreadful. The first thing you notice in the lobby is the awful egg smell and wonky pictures of strange chinese figures and stained walls and carpet. Annie is fairly odd looking but not too scary, she actually is very pleasant and helpful even if she doesnt speak a word of English! The are lots of steps leading to the rooms and be warned if your on a school trip trying to get up them lugging a huge suitcase up followed by 30 other kids shoving and pushing it is a little dangerous. We were lucky me and my 2 other roomates because we got one of the best rooms. The dingy carpet and ripped wallpaper are disgusting but it's okay the mushrooms have been cleared! There was a double bed with stained mattresses and one single which i'm not joking looked like a hospital bed! It smelt a little so we tried to open the very nice huge big windows the best part of our room, my friend opened the latch and the window fell forward and she shouted " oh no i've broken it " Luckily thats just the way they open! So don't worry. Our view was off the town and very nice. There are many bugs especially wasps, one flew in our room on the last night. The bathroom, okay lets just say it's small, limescaley and brown and green (like the tripadvisor background) but the worst part is the seling. At first glance its seems fine with thick white metal bars across it but if you look through the holes you'll see huge gaping holes with wires dangling out of them not to mention bugs, as a joke we said that there was someone up there watching us but when you look up there it doesnt seem so unreal. Anyway as i said ours was one of the nicest rooms, the boys room was terrible stained wallpaper and dingy carpet it looked much like a hole! Food: after a 12 hour journey with only a few stops you need some food so as we sat down in the again strangley decorated restaurant with the koi fish pond next to us we were hoping for nice wholesome food. The waitresses all chineese, brought out a bowl of chicken noodle soup, it tasted like chicken pie and water the worst soup i have ever tasted or so i thought, for maincourse was watery spaghetti bolognaise and pudding shop bought ice cream. Next night was defintely THE WORST SOUP EVER! I don't know what was in it i only tested a mouthful all i can say is it was brown with raw bits of fatty bacon, for main they brought out chips ! Everyone was so pleased but along came a famous frankfurter, ewww its was fowl! The last night we had a small chicken each plonked on our plates with wierd potatoes. But this was only for school groups, adults, teachers and various otheres get to choose what they eat. If you are planning to take your family there don't! There will be screaming kids all around probably playing knock down ginger on your door and the hotel hardly has a warm family fun feel! But the other reviews do make it sound like a shack, it really isnt that bad esxpecially as most of the time your not there. Phantasialand is very fun the Micheal Jackson thriller ride is the best! We went on it 5 times, don't go on the mine ride or ghost train it's so boring, the log ride is allright and the river quest looked quite good but the que is over an hour long same for black mamba. The food is good there and the service station on route from germany to england are very nice. Make sure you bring spare euros as you have to pay to use the loo. The rhine river trip is boring and so is the castle but thats from a 13 yr olds point of view. Overall the trip is not that bad the best part is your with all your friends and we ended up going pretty hyper! In the town there is a supermarket with loads of stuff and a really nice ice cream shop, the people do tend to budge you out the way but when you sey hallo sitting out the window they love to wave. For sure you should go on the chairlift it's so cool. Have a good holiday but maybe stay in a different hotel if this is your family holiday.

“Don't be put off by this Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2009

I stayed here with a school party and saw many of the rooms becuase our children were in them. They were perfectly adequate and I have seen a lot worse. The food was fine-the children did not complain, and they are fussy eaters mostly. The vegetarian option was not great- I was offered brocolli two nights in a row-but when I asked for something different it arrived. Annie-the lady in charge-was very helpful and the kids were so appreciative that they bought her a present.!
You get what you pay for-you don't pay much to stay here and the standard, while basic, is value for money
