I arrived with low expectations, having read the reviews. We were on a school trip of about 80, and I think most of them were expecting a little more.
Our room was brilliant when we first arrived. We had a room for 3, and it had a television. There was an ensuite bathroom also. However, the springs felt VERY close to the surface of the mattress. It was rather uncomfortable if you lay on any other side besides your back. Other people on our trip were very jealous, as they said their rooms were terrible.
The bell tower rang every 15 minutes, and was rather annoying. It seemed to ring for about a minute at 10 and 11, and could be heard down a phone call. One of our teachers had a room right next to the tower, and they said they got little sleep, sitting bolt upright every time it rang.
The food was alright. I lost 2kg and got a very flat stomach whilst I was away. I didn't eat much while I was away, mainly due to a bug I seemed to have picked up. The food I could eat was generally of a nice quality, but there was very little of it. I am a vegetarian, so got different food to the rest of my group. In the end I ate their meals, minus the meat.
Our table was worried about E-Coli, so was amazed when each night we were served with vegetables, salad and soups.
The location is brilliant though. It is right by the river and has brilliant views- if you get the right room. The walls are quite thin, as we could hear some teachers partying above us and girls chatting next to us.
The shower was quite cold, and leaked all over the floor.
On a positive note, our food was served with great speed, staff were friendly, the lunch and breakfast was good, the room was cleaned daily (I should know as a white towel I brought was taken away and cleaned- I didn't get it back) and Boppard is a lovely place.
There was one computer with internet.
