I stayed 4 nights at the Mercure Ratingen Hotel in November 2011. Rates were extremely high, due to the nearby Medica trade show in Duesseldorf. I paid 299 € per night excl. breakfast, excluding internet connection, which had to be paid extra.
The girls at the reception were extremely friendly and helpful, not only during check-in, but during the whole stay.
My room, a rather small-sized, standard, Mercure room, was on the first floor to the backside of the hotel. Consequently, it was very calm. The room itself was just standard, nothing really special to say about. You might also call it boring. Everything was functional, but not very up-to-date or even inviting. A closet was not available, just a metal bar with some hangers in a rack. The TV was old and small; a kettle with free coffee and tea amenities was available. The internet connection was working reliably and fast, but had to be paid extra.
The bathroom was well sized and clean, but needed an update.
The location of the hotel is terrible if you don’t have a car. There is no public transportation available and you have to take a taxi to get out of the hotel. A ride to Duesseldorf city centre will cost you about 40-50 €. Ratingen city centre is about 8 km away, Duesseldorf airport about 13 km. Apart from a Mc Donald’s right opposite from the hotel, there’s not much around. If you are travelling by car though, the location is not bad: near to the highways 52 and 3 and relatively near to the airport.
Overall, the hotel is not bad, but there are certainly better options at even better prices.
