We were two of the Unfortunates, which were caught out by the recent QANTAS grounding and consequently had our travel plans thrown into chaos. Consequently, we were forced to overnight in Frankfurt. Being a long standing member of ACCOR we decided to book our overnight accommodation through their website. We just wanted a hotel located close to the airport such that we could easily board our outbound flight the next day. The website described this hotel as being close to the airport, so we booked only to discover when we jumped into the Taxi that it was in fact some 10 kms away and resulted in a 27 Euro cabfare each way.
Upon checking in, we noticed that the paperwork detailed a room price some 40 Euro above the online price we had booked. When challenged, the desk clerk indicated that it had been amended to include breakfast which we had not requested. This was corrected.
Once we had gone to the room we discovered that the "features" were not as described on the website. We had booked a so called "Privilage" room which was supposed to include a king-sized bed, wifi, newspaper and a VIP bathroom, none of which were present in the room.
Overall, this proved to be an expensive overnight stay taking into account the cabfare of 54 Euro. We would have been better off staying at the airport Hilton for a comparable overall price. We were also disappointed that the hotel had chosen not to honor its commitment to provide a room which matched the standard and features detailed on its website at the time of booking.
Given this experience, it is unlikely that I will be renewing my ACCOR membership.
