We recently stayed three nights at the Hotel Maximillian in Schwangau. The property is a short drive from the castles with a distant view of Neuschwanstein from some of the rooms. We found the location to be a great home base for side trips to Oberammergau, the Wieskirche, and Schloss Linderhof.
Our room included the customary German breakfast buffet as well as the half-board option which includes the evening meal. The food was good to excellent at all meals and the staff was very helpful. The majority of the other guests were German speaking and the staff was very helpful when they found out our ability to speak German was very limited. The rooms were clean, the hotel was quiet, and the room rate was very attractive.

“Well run hotel with friendly staff and a good location”
We stayed in the Landhaus Marie, annex to the main hotel. The one bedroomed suite we had was modern,very clean and well equipped and had a patio area. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast provided a good choice and was of excellent quality. The hotel provides dinner for its residents if required at 13 Euro per person per night. You have to order it each day from a limited choice and although the dinner was not huge, it was well cooked and nicely presented. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we really enjoyed our stay and would return there. The position within a few minute walk of the Forgansee and near to castles, cable car and cycling routes was good. The nearby town of Fussen is very interesting and has lots of cafes and restaurants.
