Accommodation can be difficult to find during high season in the small towns and villages surrounding Lake Tegernsee, so we asked German friends to help. They visited the area last February, found this little gem and immediately made a booking for us. Although only rated 3 stars, it was spotlessly clean and the rooms, which are simply furnished, are of a good size and very comfortable. Each of the 19 rooms has either terrace or balcony, and each has its own bathroom with bath, shower, wash basin and toilet.
We regarded this as a real bargain, especially since the room price included a splendid buffet breakfast with a wide selection of dishes which changed daily. The nightly rate was only 70 EUR (less than 50 GBP) with no extras for taxes. The peace and tranquility alone were worth this when compared with the town of Tegernsee, whose main street had a constant stream of traffic from early morning to late at night.
Although the hotel is secluded, and in the village of Rottach-Egern, it is only a 5 minute stroll to the lakeside and several restaurants and cafes, and a further 10 minutes to the centre of Tegernsee with its numerous hotels facing the busy main street.
Anyone who appreciates the comfort of a friendly family-run small hotel, rather than expensive luxury, will feel quite at home in this hotel.
