“Great B&B Hostel/Pension with beautiful view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

This is a small hostel owned and managed by a lady and her husband. It's on a hilltop overlooking the valley of Pfronten, a small German town very close to the castle of Neuschwanstein. We stayed here for a couple of days as the main base while we visited the surrounding area, including the castle (it's very close like 15km). The area is beautiful!

The hotel is clean, well managed and breakfast is included in the price. For a bit more you can get one of the front rooms with balcony, just make sure you ask for it. These rooms have a fantastic view and are worth it! At night it's very quiet, you can only hear the owls and surrounding fauna.

We loved it here!

“"Room with a View"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

Have just had 2 nights at this hotel and can thorougly recommend. If you get a room with a balcony (ask for room 8) you'll be happy just to sit on the balcony, drinking a glass of wine or beer and enjoying the fantastic panorama; it gets the late evening sun so you can enjoy until dark. The name of the hotel really does apply in this case; it overlooks Pfronten with the mountains and Austria in the near distance.
Room was comfortable and had everything we needed. A very good buffet breakfast and good (but limited) evening menu. For 2 nights that's not a problem but you might get tired of the choice if you are there for much longer. Meals can be taken on the sun terrace but you might find yourself competing with the locals for a chair, it's obviously very popular with the people who live there, always a good sign. Owner/chef and wife very friendly, you won't be disappointed. We speak german which might help but the previous review in no way reflects what we found! There is so much to see and visit in this most southerly bit of Germany, you won't be disappointed.
PS We had fantastic weather which probably helped!!

“Incredibly shoddy treatment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2009

We wanted to stay in this hotel. As is usual in this day and age, we sent an email a week before we wanted to stay, since September counts as off-season. Unfortunately, no one made the effort to contact us, so we phoned the hotel two days in advance of our desired stay. I told the lady on reception we had sent an email and got no reply. She did not apologise, just asked my name and when we wanted to stay, and said, "no, we have nothing free for that night." Being obviously quite annoyed at this treatment, I asked her whether this was why she didn't bother to contact us, and she said she had no idea if a reply had been sent out or the email even received. Am I too hopeful in expecting that a small hotel, that should value its customers even more than a big chain, should at least have the common courtesy to reply to a request? I had left a phone number in my email, so they could also have left a message on my answerphone. Since we live in Germany and I wrote the email in German, she could not claim that she didn't understand my request linguistically. We were only staying one night, but when one finds a good hotel one is often inspired to come back for a longer stay. In our case, that will not happen!

“Charm hotel with panoramic views and lovely staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2009

We are a young couple from San Diego, CA, and we were on vacation. Both my husband and I were very happy with this hotel. The staff is so very friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean. Be sure to ask for a room with a view as this is the best feature of the hotel. It is so quiet that we slept with the balcony doors open, and the only sound you hear at night are the faint church bells from the town below. I would love to return someday. Just a note to potential visitors from the the US, this is a very German bed and breakfast; meaning that you will get a clean, comfortable room, and a good meal, however the towels may not match, and you wont get any complimentary shampoos etc... but that's just how things are there. It's a safe and charming place, high recommended!

  • Liked — The panoramic views of the moutains and city below, and the friendliness of the staff.
  • Disliked — Nothing
