We wanted to stay in this hotel. As is usual in this day and age, we sent an email a week before we wanted to stay, since September counts as off-season. Unfortunately, no one made the effort to contact us, so we phoned the hotel two days in advance of our desired stay. I told the lady on reception we had sent an email and got no reply. She did not apologise, just asked my name and when we wanted to stay, and said, "no, we have nothing free for that night." Being obviously quite annoyed at this treatment, I asked her whether this was why she didn't bother to contact us, and she said she had no idea if a reply had been sent out or the email even received. Am I too hopeful in expecting that a small hotel, that should value its customers even more than a big chain, should at least have the common courtesy to reply to a request? I had left a phone number in my email, so they could also have left a message on my answerphone. Since we live in Germany and I wrote the email in German, she could not claim that she didn't understand my request linguistically. We were only staying one night, but when one finds a good hotel one is often inspired to come back for a longer stay. In our case, that will not happen!
