“A wonderful hotel in a wonderful town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We were in Freising in January 2012 for a post-Christmas wedding and we stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. We would gladly have stayed longer, the room was so comfortable and the staff so courteous, welcoming, and helpful. The son of the owner was especially welcoming, making you feel like family! I don't speak German, but everyone on the staff spoke at least a bit of English, and the people at reception were fluent. The hotel is impeccable, our very big double room had a couch, coffee table and two arm chairs, and a small desk and chair. (Number 67). The beds were nice and firm, the eiderdowns light and warm. There was a big, traditional Christmas tree in the lobby, fresh fruit at the reception desk (apples, clementines and grapes). We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant -- it was closed for the January 6th holiday! But we found an excellent substitute called Huber Weisses -- a typical Bavarian inn with an extensive choice of dishes, excellent cuisine, family-friendly. To get there: when you leave the hotel, turn left, walk to the end of the street, turn left again and it is ahead of you on a little square! The restaurant has a website too. I agree with all of the positive comments about the hotel written by other reviewers and like them I highly recommend this hotel. It should be noted that the hotel is in a pedestrian zone, yet is accessible from the airport or train station by taxi (there are lots of taxis at the train station, by the way.) But for the uninformed, the access is not at all easy -- you should perhaps contact the hotel before you arrive, asking for information to give to the taxi driver explaining how to get there! Our taxi driver from the airport had a hard time finding the ONE entrance to the city center for automobiles, although eventually we made it.

“Great Hotel for Munich Airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

Friendly Bavarian atmosphere in nice little town with excellent easy access to/from Munich Airport. Bus #635 runs every 20 minutes, takes 15 minutes, 2.40 Euros pp. Hotel is 10 minutes walk from Bus/Bahnhof, straight out Bahnhofstrasse and turn right at Hauptstrasse. This is an older traditional hotel, with comfortable 2-bedded rooms and minimal amenities. The restaurant is beautiful and reasonable, with a very good selection of delicious food and friendly service. My daughter and I stayed here overnight before a 9:30 a.m. flight, and ended up staying 2 extra nights due to "volcanic ash" problems. We felt very fortunate to be in this safe, comfortable and accessible hotel for 62 Euros per night. Highly recommended unless you want a fancy expensive place.

“Excellent traditional hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2010

The Bayerischer Hof (Bavarian Home?) is a traditional bavarian hotel. Not for people who look for design, impersonal hotels. Its only drawback is that, in central Freising with many little streets, it is difficult to get there by car (very easy on foot, and it is close to the railway station to where get trains from Munich and airport shuttles), idem for the (free) parking.
The owner is "germanically reserved"... and charming, very courteous.
The bedrooms, although rather old, are spotless and very pleasant, some very large; so are the bathrooms.
The whole hotel is quiet and pleasant.
We had our breakfast with friends, so I cannot express an opinion upon it.
The next time I go to Freising, I will stay there and nowhere else.

“Freising is awesome -- this is the best place to be near Munich Airport!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2009

My mother's family comes from Freising, and the purpose of our trip was a family funeral. Under these difficult circumstances, we wanted our trip to be as easy as possible. Staying at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof was the perfect choice, and we would recommend it to anyone visiting the area near Munich Airport. It is a family operated inn run by Mr. Dettenhofer, who was originally somewhat stiff and formal, but once he met us, he relaxed a bit and was quite nice. We decided at the last minute to abandon the idea of the outrageously-priced rental car offered to us by Hertz, and this turned out to be an extremely wise decision. Freising is a very quick taxi ride from the airport for about 21 Euros, and in this super-ancient city (founded in 725 A.D.) full of narrow alleys and cobblestone streets, a car becomes something to actually worry about. You'll be amazed at how many people opt to use bicycles, and all the stores, cafes, and tourist attractions are a really short walk from the hotel. If you really do need a car, however, the hotel does have a small parking lot in back and some covered garage spaces. It's safe to go out at night, and you get an extra key to use if you need to enter the hotel late, although it's open 24 hours. We liked our small double room with private bath and spent a lot of time there amusing ourselves with the hilarious German-dubbed programming on satellite TV. We opted to include breakfast in our room rate. We didn't discover until the moment we left for the airport that it was possible to request hot food like cooked eggs because not much English is spoken by the staff. However, we had been more than satisfied with the generous, high-quality array on the cold breakfast buffet of breads, spreads, meats, cheeses, cereals, yogurts, all delicious local products. We didn't visit the actual dining room during our stay because our jet lag made us nap during the evening hours, and we'd get up and run out to one of the four neighboring outdoor cafes just before the kitchen closed. There are *lots* of choices in the small downtown Marienplatz market square next to the hotel. If you want to bypass the usual overpriced businessman's hotels and get a true Bavarian experience at about half the price of the chains like Marriott, Novotel, etc., then check out the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. This very pleasant stay made our funeral trip a lot easier for our family, and we would gladly return under happier circumstances -- highly recommended!

“Good location and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2008

Hotel Bayerischer Hof makes a nice first or last night's stay for travellers through Munich Airport who prefer charming small towns to big cities. It is located in the quiet heart of Freising, a pleasant place to walk around evenings, and much closer to the airport than Munich itself: 10-15 minutes by bus to the train station, and another 6-8 minutes walk to the hotel. The hotel is very traditional (which term I use as a compliment): it does not even have a web page or e-mail, so if you want to make a reservation (not necesssary, normally), you have to phone or fax. But rooms are clean and very good value; they can also be had without breakfast, another plus for those with early flights to catch. There is also a pleasant, conservatively furnished restaurant with a lot of traditional favorites, e.g., several kinds of dumplings, on the menu - all in all, an ideal place to stay while the jet lag abates.
