Very conveniently located, a brisk quarter-hour's walk from the main railway station and in the Old Town but a bit at the periphery, near the top of the castle mount. I had a quiet, large room, tucked away high at the back of the annexe; the next-door pub kept late and noisy hours, but I heard nothing as soon as I had closed the windows. Lots of hot water and a powerful shower; a comfortable, warm bed; friendly, helpful staff; excellent dinner at the hotel's own restaurant; hot breakfasts with an excellent choice of items, wonderful coffee... the only flaw: Not my room itself, but its en-suite bathroom, could have used a lick of paint.

It is an interesting University town founded in 1477. The Hotel Am Schloss is at the top of the hill just below the castle. It's comprised of many small, old homes fitted with many rooms and is on a charming cobblestone street on a very, narrow, steep,single lane path. There is a bar on the street that many students frequent so it is quite noisy if you like your windows open. The delivery trucks begin early and are also a nuisance. The restaurant and many rooms are on the back of the building and very peaceful and pleasant. The food is better than average and the waitstaff is very helpful. Breakfasts are very good too.

We stayed at the Hotel am Schloss for one night only, on our way to the Black Forest. The hotel is located next to the castle in Tübingen, and very conveniently so, as you are from walking distance to the heart of the old town of the city.

Parking was a nuisance, as there is only very limited parking available outdoor. There are two large payable parkings nearby however. Parking in front of the hotel will cost you 7 Euros per day. The hotel was at first very hard to find, but once you know where to drive, it is very easy. Furthermore, we had the staff guiding us to the hotel until we found it, which was better than any GPS.

The restaurant is famous in the area for its "Maultaschen" - or meat-filled dumplings, which are a local delicacy. They have a nice menu and is frequented by many locals. However, if you are staying there, you will like it! The best feature of the restaurant is the view onto the city, which is breathtaking. Especially in summer, it is a very nice spot to have a meal, as there are large trees which provide cooling shade.

Staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the stay. The hotel, and or rooms were cleaner than a hospital, and yet very cozy. The decoration reminds of the great German poets and thinkers.

Other than the parking which is a nuisance, I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. If you can get a room with view onto the city, rather than the parking. In any case the view will be lovely. As for value for money, we paid some 60 Euros per person, which was acceptable.

Stayed here 4th of July week. Had a room across the street from the restaurant and next to the local bar. Room was in the back so it was nice and quiet, except for July 4 when other Americans apparently had been celebrating a little too much and decided to sing in the street.

The room was fabulously clean with an extremely spacious and modern bathroom. Had dinner each night in the "Castle" restaurant. Loved the maultaschen!

This hotel is 2 minutes away from the "old town" area with great shopping and dining. Bring your camera because you won't believe the beauty of the town square with it's fountain, half-timbered buildings, lacy curtains in the windows and flower boxes.

Very close to the train station, but you'll still want to take a taxi to the hotel because the steep hills don't mix well with a lot of luggage.
