This Carat Hotel - former Atlas Hotel - has become an excellent choice and delivers exceptional value for money. The breakfast ist above and beyond expectations. These hotel beds provide best quality for sleep and regeneration. The spacious rooms are really a pleasant surprise to travelers, who have been stoved in those small closets, which are being offered in New York and called hotel rooms at triple and quadruple rates, compared to the rates here. Also: Excellent and safe parking facilities, cozy hotel restaurant and bar. This is now really a place for a nice stopover or a relaxing week-end. Very recommendable!

Confusing finding the hotel since the website hotels.com as well as the hotel website have it listed as the Carathotel Basel and the sign on the outside of the hotel names it the Atlas Hotel. No warning given when booked. Regardless of that excellent service with multi lingual staff. Be aware that you have to pay for parking which is 6 euros. The only negative is that the internet is very expensive and can only be purchased for 24 hours for 22 euros.

Old, and far way from everything. Internet connection 24€ per day!!!! Unpleasant rooms and above all staff at reception VERY UNFRIENDLY! To be avoided.

On arrival first impressions weren't great - the car park was a mess and the lawns haven't seen a mower in ages. Checked in, reception staff perfectly ok, had extra pillows sent up when requested. Very little information about Basel available at reception.

But the room - a throwback from the 80s. Lots of dark painted wood, grubby grey carpet and walls. The bathroom was a shade of green, perfectly clean but very gloomy. No airconditioning provided so windows had to be left open - except that the Atlas Hotel is surrounded by roads and junctions. All night we could hear boy racers screaming away from the lights. Apertures around the windows were filthy. When showering (over the bath) the water didn't run away and so filled to the overflow during a shower.

I'm sure it could be a nice hotel, but the photos provided when booking do not compare to the actual room given. Disappointing.
