My husband and I stayed at the Filderhotel for 2 weeks when we moved to Stuttgart, Germany in September 2005. Our company had several preferred hotels nearer the city (including the Millenium and the Dorint Fontana), but all were booked during our arrival weekend. Next on their list was the Filderhotel, which is where they booked us.
Our initial disappointment at being out in the suburbs (rather than in the city of Stuttgart) turned around quickly when we checked in, however. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and they never seemed to mind speaking English with us. Additionally, the hotel is literally ON the Stuttgart U-Bahn train system. This made our stay extremely convenient, as we were able to take the train pretty much anywhere we wanted to go.
The room was, admittedly, small. This may have been due to the fact that our company incorrectly booked our room as a single, but this may have been the same size as the double rooms. We're unsure about that. The staff simply moved our "couch" next to the single bed and made it up to become a double. There was very little moving-around room. But the room was clean and pleasant. And the area is certainly quiet, so you will have no noise problems.
One last tip: the restaurant is excellent, and the service wonderful!
